Have you heard of greek mythology? Greek Mythology is the body of myths and teachings that belong to the ancient Greeks, concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and the origins and significance of their own cult and ritual practices. For example, the story of Odysseus and Argus is a popular tale about a Lord coming back home after many years of war. Nobody remembers Odysseus besides his loyal dog, Argus. The two reunite which leads to Argus’ death. Both the artist Theodor Van Thulden and the poet Alexander Pope showed us this tale in extraordinary ways. In the painting, Argos Recognizes Odysseus, Theodor Van Thulden uses the reunion of Argos and Odysseus to show that even in the best moments, you never know what will happen to make them the worst, while in his poem “Argus,” Alexander Pope uses the same scene to show that hardships and being forgotten only make homesickness worse.
