What are things modern-day heros do? Modern-day heros are really role models to society. According to definition of a modern-day hero is someone who voluntarily engages in activity to benefit others. Odysseus is the king of Ithaca, he is the son of Laertes, and some people consider him a hero. Odysseus is a character from the Odyssey and is written by Homer. The Odyssey is Homer's epic of Odysseus' 10-year struggle to return home after the Trojan War. According to the ancient Greeks dictionary the definition of a hero is a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability.
