Did you know that Abraham Lincoln had a premonition dream of his assassination? Crazy, right? As piquing as it might sound, that’s not the kind of dream I’ll be talking about. Instead of the visions that people have in their sleep, I’m talking about goals and aspirations for the future. Some people say that it’s not worth it to dream, but I disagree. Even though some dreams might not come true, it is worth it to dream because it keeps people working hard; the only people who have ever succeeded have dreamed; and even though there is a chance of failure, dreaming provides motivation. It is clearly worth it to dream because if someone actually puts in work, effort and dedication into something, the chances of achieving their dream are higher than if they just sat there. As said by musician Billy Joel, “You can get what you want or you can just get old.” This shows that if people don’t dream, they’ll just be wasting their time doing nothing with their lives. Dreaming provides a reason to achieve a goal, a reason to improve, and a reason to work. This is also shown in the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. George and Lennie both had a dream, and even though they didn’t end up achieving it, they stayed motivated and didn’t give

A major part of life is pursuing dreams. Life would almost be pointless if people did not have ambitions. We wouldn’t have a reason to get out of bed if they did not have a dream that they want to achieve. Anne Laurel Cartier, the author of the short story “Leaving the iron lung,” specifically looks at how having a dream can affect one’s life. Carter uses conflicting characters, character transformation, and the setting to illustrate that to be content with life one needs to follow their dream, even if they need to commit and sacrifice to achieve it.…

Everything has a meaning or at least a purpose that helps everyone work toward a goal. Like in the novel The Great Gatsby, a green light on Daisy’s dock that Gatsby always gazes upon is a great meaning to him and most of the characters in the book. It symbolizes an unattainable dream or like a hazy future that one must work toward to gain that goal. F. Scott Fitzgerald places the green light there to bring hope not just for him but for others who also read the book that what to reach a goal.…
