The title of the film is October Sky, which made its first cinema premiere on February 19, 1999 and was based off the book Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam Jr.; Joe Johnston directed it and Chris Cooper, Laura Dem, Jake Gyllenhaal, Chad Lindberg, Chris Owen, and William Lee Scott were the primary on-screen characters and performing artist within the movie; the theme of the movie was: when confronting affliction, never surrender.
In October 1957, when the first simulated satellite, Sputnik goes into space, Homer Hickam gets to be enlivened to figure out how to manufacture rockets. With his friends, O’Dell and Roy Lee, and the neighborhood geek, Quentin, they attempt to understand how rockets operate through many trial and error set-ups. Homer’s dad

Homer Hickam is the primary character's name; nevertheless, in the book and in real life, he was nicknamed and introduced to as "Sonny”. John, Homer Hickam’s father in the movie, is not his real name; Homer Hickam is a junior, signifying that he originated his name from his biological father, Homer Hickam. The name switch was to keep the audience from being confused (Al). The movie portrayed there were only four “rocket boys”, but there are six young men who were credited to the actual project. The movie combined the names of the six boys, whose real names are Homer Hickam Jr., Quentin Wilson, Jimmy O'Dell Carroll, Roy Lee Cooke, Billy Rose and Sherman Siers. The Rocket Boys did not take railroad parts as they did in the film; however, they did make an effort to snatch a cast iron pipe under the tracks. At one point in the movie, Homer dropped out of school to help provide for his family after his dad was badly injured in a mine accident. Turns out, Homer never dropped out of school. In addition to that phony claim, the rocket boys never got any scholarships for their project …show more content…
The setting of the film was fabulous. The cars were old looking and the downtown area looked like it could be out of a 50’s catalog. The clothing attire and haircuts on the actors and actresses fit the vintage theme. The women clothes looked very neat and well planned out. Most of the men wore miner uniforms. but for the men who wore regular clothing, it looked like clothes I see on an everyday basis. Most of the men wore polo styled shirts and slacks. The scenery for any seen shot at the mine plantation was amazing. The underground mine scenes looked realistic. The lighting and sound effects were appropriate for the act. When the Rocket Boys were testing out their rockets, the shack they made looked great. I do not think there were any major prop and scene mistakes that I would change. I think all props and scenes were appropriate and came into play magnificently. If the movie was filmed in recent years, I think it would have more technological advances. The use of books would not have played a factor in the movie. More than likely, the young boys would have used the internet. Another that would probably change would be how Quentin and Homer became close so fast. Bullying is a huge issue now and Homer, more than likely, would have bullied Quentin to get him to help with his

The mise-en-scene of the sequence I chose is very authentic, the ambiance of the film and setting is quite accurate of what took place in the 60’s. The audience gets to see the path that Martin Luther King took while leading the Civil Rights Movement, to give the right to vote to all of the African Americans of the south. The elements included in the sequence are all very time accurate and are very well tied together. For example, the costumes that you see on the screen are very well designed to fit the time and era the director was trying to capture.…

This movie has forever marked its place on my top five football movies list. The actors and actresses did a great job of not just acting but becoming their characters and executing them perfectly. The producers, McG, Basil Iwanyk, Thomas Tull, Scott Mednick, Jeanne Allgood, and Brent O'Connor, did a great job because you could actually feel a sense of empathy for what the town went…

German philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering.” This quote is exactly what “3 A.M. and the Stars Were Out” is about; going through life, suffering, and moving on. “3 AM and the Stars Were Out” is part of Something Rich and Strange, a short story collection written by Ron Rash. This collection has many stories about hope, but also stories about characters who are struggling to find ways past their melancholy present. Ron Rash’s “3AM and the Stars Were Out” is a story about coping with the sufferings in life and moving on no matter what they are, which is represented through the stressful events of the calf being born, the Korean war the characters were in, and their…

Through encountering horrific events during his life, Elie Wiesel has discovered, “When a person doesn’t have gratitude, something is missing in his or her humanity”. Elie Wiesel was a survivor of the Holocaust; in May 1944, when Wiesel was only 15 years old, the Nazis deported him and his family to Auschwitz, a concentration camp in Poland. His mother and the youngest of his three sisters died at Auschwitz, while he and his father were later transported to another camp, Buchenwald, located in Germany. Throughout reading Night I’ve learned from the perspective of a victim himself how life-ruining the Holocaust had become. Wiesel himself stated that “Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.…

“A Christmas Story”, the play directed by Susan Ferley and performed at December 2nd, 2015, was a well-performed play in my opinion. The story is about a boy named Ralphie Parker wanting a BB gun: a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and "this thing which tells time" for his Christmas present. In the story, he does all he can to receive that gun but their parents reject his wish because they thought it was too dangerous for him. The writer, Jean Shepherd, wrote about a very boring outline of the story but made the story humorous and exciting for the audience. The performances in the “A Christmas Story” was very well done by the actors.…
