I have had the honor and opportunity of interviewing some amazing athletes in the OCR world, that includes several Spartan Pro athletes and one of the youngest and oldest active racers in the sport and it seemed only fitting to interview one of the most inspiring adaptive athletes in OCR. We both ran the same Spartan race weekend in Canada this year, so I made it a point to go say hi and setup this interview.

 Interview with Misty:

• When did you run your first obstacle course?

Misty: On December 5th, 2013 Malibu Spartan Race, with team Weeple Army.

• What is the hardest obstacle for you to complete?

Misty: The Spear throw, I don’t have much balance without my crutches, and I am super short, so the railing is taller than me.

• What is the easiest obstacle for you to complete?

Misty: The rope climb, traverse wall, anything upper body.

• What has been your most difficult OCR to date?

Misty: The Montana Beast, by mile 5, I knew It would be my

I like coffee but not all the time, I enjoy sitting down reading something motivational with my coffee. I also spend time responding to emails, kayaking, hiking and planning my next hiking spots.

• Would you like to see more obstacles on OCR courses that are 100% a mental challenge, so being in great physical shape will not help complete at all?

Misty: Being on the course is mental challenge, the entire time I’m on the course; I am talking to myself mentally saying what the heck I am thinking to be out here climbing this mountain. The first few miles are the worse, because you can still turn around. Being an OCR racer and a Road runner for me is a mental game. Talking to yourself convincing yourself you can accomplish this race, you can put one foot in front of the other, you can climb a 15ft wall, you can do anything!

My personal motto is a quote from Mimfa A. Gibson: “Don’t expect mangoes when you plant papayas.” Through the turbulent and exhausting challenges presented in our everyday lives, it is easy for the correlation between preparation and achievement to become skewed. Current United States Army Ranger and member of the 101st Airborne division, Lieutenant Kyle Treece, helps me keep straight the path and live out my personal motto. By setting an example of discipline, determination, and fortitude, Lieutenant Treece inspires me to take advantage of every opportunity, and to focus my actions so that I may achieve my exact goals.…

Good Afternoon Mr. Lanigan, The APS manual states that the AP interview is to begin with an “introduction and statement for the purpose for the interview”. APS policy (1703.50) The policy also states that the APCW is to address the allegations in the report. There is no specific guidance as to when the allegations can be brought up or how you approach the allegations. I am curious to hear your critique of how our staff conducts their interviews of the AP. I am also looking forward to your training that will be much later this year.…

Thank you for the opportunity of interview for the unit clerk position at the Pasqua Hospital where I am inspired to contribute more and am intent on building a career utilizing my skills and talents in new and more challenging ways. For three fantastic years, I have been a porter in a busy hospital emergency department, which is an excellent job, besides the ability to help a variety of people both staff and patients, I witness and appreciate how this department functions and grows as a team. Unexpectedly the unit clerk position sparked my interest during an ordinary day when I had the opportunity to learn that the role of a unit clerk is an integral part of the emergency team. After stepping back from my task of delivering and assisting in positioning the patient on the code stretcher, my attention turned to the unit clerk, which was my normal routine where I awaited further instruction.…

Semi-structured interview The interview allows implicit and unobservable beliefs of teachers to be made explicit. Interview seems to be an appropriate tool for eliciting verbal commentaries, which many teacher cognition researchers have employed in a semi-structured format because open-ended questions allow interviewees to respond to questions by expressing in their own words (Borg, 2006). According to Borg (2006), semi-structured interview is common to employ when a researcher aims to capture the main element of natural conversation, especially in an in-depth interview. This method is productive or meaningful when a researcher uses themes or topics to guide interviewees.…

The Lesson in Quitting For the past 7 years of my life, swimming has played a huge role. Growing up, I had always enjoyed being in the water, and was one of the odd kids that genuinely enjoyed swimming lessons, no bribes required (thinking about it, I wish I had some of those kids in the lessons I teach now). Overtime, it began to feel less like a passion and more like an obligation; something I had committed to that was too late to stop. I was afraid to quit, afraid to disappoint, and trying to be dedicated to a sport I had lost interest in made me start to hate it. This year, I finally decided to drop the sport, and am now embracing the huge change it has had in my life.…
