Occurrence Of The Magazine: Weapons Used During Colonial Time

The Magazine, being used to hold our weapons, didn’t seem to have the best security. However, the country learned to protect our weapons from all the attacks in the Magazine. An example of an attack in the Magazine, was when Lord Dunmore and many Marines stole fifteen of the seventeen half-barrels of gunpowder. The weapons in the Magazine were stored to protect against Indians, slave revolts, riots, and pirate raids. Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, it would be best to make a commemorative coin to honor the Magazine.
The Magazine was important during Colonial times because it held many weapons. The soldiers needed a quick place to go to store up on weapons for huge wars. It held many weapons such as cannons, muskets, pistols, swords and rifles. It also held axes, flints, shot bags, cannonballs, and lead. If the Magazine was on a commemorative coin, then many people could see how important the Magazine was in Colonial Williamsburg and what it was used for.

Virginia’s government and its gear moved to Richmond in 1780. That left the local troops in charge of the Magazine. The local troops found less and less use for it. The Magazine served Williamsburg as a Market house by 1797. In the 1850s the second floor of the Magazine became a Baptist meeting house. The value or relevance of the Magazine to the citizens today is that it gives them evidence from the past. The colonial citizens found out that the Magazine was used to hold weapons and many other items such as drums, tools, rope, and etc. Next, the citizens found out that the Magazine got attacked multiple times.
