Occurrence at Owl Creek” by Ambrose Bierce is an short story about a man named Peyton Farquhar who is about to be hung on a railroad bridge in northern Alabama. The author divides the story into three sections. The first section describes how he is about to be hung. As he stands there he hears this extremely loud ticking that slows down and turns out to be his watch ticking which represents time slowing down in his mind as the men were going to step away to leave him there to hang. The second section goes back in time and explains to the readers how he got there in the first place. It is to be inferred that this is during the Civil War when he meets a Federal scout, which they served as Union spies who traveled ahead to gather information,
