While working as a pre-school teacher, I found myself constantly being challenged; at the same time I was delighted that I was able to unitize my psychology background. I’ve worked with children that were having difficulty adjusting and participate in school activities, because they didn’t speak English. I’ve worked with children that have learned behaviors that needed a different approach to re-introduce them into group activities. I also had a rare opportunity to work with an Occupational therapist, together working side by side with a child that has a physical disability. I’ve also work as an interpreter for the Chinese speaking families and children at the school.

But as a pre-school teacher, I had limitation. Often, I couldn’t work as one-on-one with the children, and I couldn’t spend as much time as I would’ve liked to help them with their struggles. Furthermore, I was not professionally train to fully assist children with physical disabilities.
Because of my experience, I’ve realized that I wanted to be able to do more than my position had allowed me to do; it motivated me to apply for graduate
