Occupational Therapist Vs Veterinary Technician Essay

As a freshman in highschool, I am still very young, but I am also growing up much faster than I expected. Graduation is nearly three years away which means I need to start thinking about my future. My post high school life will be comprised of numerous factors, but one of the most essential components will be my career. I have given a great deal of thought about what careers I might want to pursue, and I have narrowed it down to two occupations: a veterinary technician and an occupational therapist. These careers are similar in their communication skill requirements but differ in work environment and pay. Being able to communicate well with others is a vital trait to being successful for a veterinary technician and an occupational therapist. I need to be able to talk to the pet owners about their pet as well as interact with my co-workers and other vet techs and assistants ("Veterinary Technician"). If you work in a more competitive field, like zoos, research, and government, you end up making more money. The minimum yearly salary is $21,270 and the highest can be a little bit more than $44,490, depending on how much education you receive (Encyclopedia of Careers 927). “According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the median salary for occupational therapists was $76,940 in 2013. The lowest paid 10 percent earned $51,310 or less a year in 2013, and the top paid 10 percent earned $109,380 or more” (Encyclopedia of Careers 770).
