The goal of the Teacher’s Occupational Preference Inventory is to identify the types of needs that motivate an individual in their leadership. The inventory is based off of Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and is divided into 5 main categories: type A basic needs-creature comfort, type B safety and order, type C belonging and affiliation, type D ego-status, and type E actualization. The results of my personal level of needs are as follows: type E=89, type A=58, type B=56, type C=50, and type D=47. My personal results indicate that my most important need is actualization. The meaning of this need system is that an individual is focused on testing his or her own potential and is driven by the motivation to challenge oneself or be creative in their work. Therefore, an individual will seek to find a job in which there is a good deal of freedom of expression, the chance to try new things and a control of one’s safety. When this need is dominate, such, as within my case, it is critical that his/her most creative and constructive skills be utilized in ones work. This truly is evident in the way I …show more content…
A part of the ego-status in which I agree most with, is that it reflects on opportunities for me to demonstrate my skills and competences. For example, I do not think being an AP teacher means anything special until I am able to prove that I can successfully have my students pass. As a future administrator, the title of being an assistant principal will mean nothing to me until I have shown some kind of success to the people I work with. The positive aspect of this type of motivation is that I am driven to prove myself in order to have the status.
