Scholarship
“To have things that you have always wanted, you have to do things you have never done”-unknown. Being able to get this scholarship would mean the world to me. Having the money help put me where I want to go in college which would be great, but being able to say that the money came from Prairie Meadows would be the best part. Prairie Meadows has always been right down the street from me. And I would go there alot as a kid, weather it was going to watch the horses, staying at the hotel or even going to eat the delicious buffet. I loved going there. The quote at the start has always stuck with me. I have always been the type of person to go out and achieve the things I want

I am a child who is from a military family, who has dreamed of working with the Department of Defense (DOD) schools overseas, and I have been told to never give up on my dreams. Attending college to become a school psychologist has been a dream of mine. Receiving this scholarship would help me pursue my career with helping other military children cope with their parent or parents being deployed. Working as a school psychologist, I can personally relate to the emotions and struggles the kids are going through more than most people because I have been in their position. With the help of the Prairie Meadows Scholarship my dream of helping military children will come true.…

I play on the women's collegiate softball team at St. Thomas University. I have been playing softball since I could walk and, along with every other athlete, my dream is to play on the biggest and brightest stage possible. For softball that is the NCAA College World Series. Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to make millions of dollars playing professional softball like many other professional athletes. This is it for me because college is the highest level of softball I will play in my life and I don't want to settle at a school where I know my athletic ability and hard work could get me so much further.…

I feel like I am a good candidate for this scholarship because, as a senior, any and all money earned and received will help me ease the burden of attending college. My goal throughout my whole childhood was to receive a full ride scholarship to the college of my dreams; however, as time has gone on and I have matured I have come to the realization that, that dream is not as achievable as I once believed it to be. I have worked hard, inside and outside of the classroom, making the grades and creating the resume that colleges are looking for, and in response I have been offered tuition waivers. Which ultimately means I am still responsible for paying for my books, room and board, part of the tuition cost, and mandatory fees.…

The values and standards of National Honor Society are the four important pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. A person needs to represent all four pillars to uphold the honor of National Honor Society, just like a table with four legs must balance a table. I have developed through the years to be a strong leader, holding the table of scholarship, leadership, service, and character and I would be so very honored to hold this leadership with National Honor Society. Scholarship is holding myself to a high standard, academically and socially. I display a strong sense of scholarship as I have maintained the Highest Honor Roll each grade of my High School career, Middle School and even Elementary School, I love to learn!…

Frederick Douglass once said “It is not light that we need, but fire; it is not the gentle shower, but thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake.” This means that difficult circumstances are needed to become better versions of ourselves. As someone who overcame the difficulty of balancing academics, athletics, and involvement with clubs and organizations on campus, I personally agree with this statement. Based upon the qualities I developed during these difficult circumstances, Frederick Douglass would believe I’m deserving of a scholarship bearing his name.…

“ If you don’t get a full ride scholarship you cannot go to the college of your choice.” My mother has been telling me that since I was in middle school. I would think to myself how hard can it be to get a full ride. Now I’m a senior in high school with no full ride scholarship even though throughout high school I kept my grades up and I even played basketball in hope of a scout would come to my small charter school and discover my talent but that didn’t happen either.…

Can you believe a kid, diagnosed with ADD, who struggled in school, who lacked self-confidence, and who didn’t feel as smart as the other kids, could be awarded a college football scholarship and be pursuing a Business Administration and Management degree? I am that kid. I have gained vital experiences through my involvement in all sports related activities, most significantly football. My coaches, teammates, and training have taught me that taking pride in my actions, and being goal oriented and driven will help me achieve great things. This scholarship will further that and afford me critical time to concentrate on studies, spend time learning about businesses in the community, and discovering what organizations or community service opportunities…

I am willing to bet that there are many astonishing young men and women who have applied for this scholarship. I am also willing to bet there are a fair amount of applicants who meet the unwritten standards needed to receive this scholarship. I will not boast promises of outstanding grades or how this money could build my future. Instead, I will tell of my past, allowing my personality speak for itself. Growing up my parents always encouraged my siblings and me to stay true to ourselves, whether that is morally, mentally, and/or physically.…
