Obtaining A Post-Secondary Degree

Do you believe there is a benefit to earning a post-secondary degree? Post-secondary degrees have been around since before America declared independence from Great Britain in 1776. People have always had to go to college to earn a post-secondary degree. Also, colleges today are so expensive because in the 1700’s only rich families could afford to send their kids to college, so the prices of college have not gone down since then. Earning a post-secondary degree will have a positive impact on somebody’s life because there will be more job opportunities, higher incomes, and a longer life expectancy.

First of all, earning a post-secondary degree, increases a person’s chances of finding a job out of college. For example, In an article written by the National Center For Educational Statistics (NCES), “Generally, the unemployment rate was lower for those with higher levels of education attachment.”(NCES). For this reason, if people go to school for a longer time than high school graduates, they are less likely to become unemployed. According to an article written by Walter Hamilton in Los Angeles Times, The average salaries are usually higher for students that graduate from a higher named college (Hamilton). This evidence proves, the higher named college a person goes to, the higher their salary may be coming out of college. Also, in an article written by Hope Yen, “For instance, college graduates ages 25-32 who were working full time workers now typically earn about $17,500 more annually than employed young adults with just a high school diploma…” (Yen). For this reason, people who earn a post-secondary degree are more likely to earn higher salaries than people who only graduated high school. Clearly, by having a post-secondary degree, workers earn higher salaries, which may also increase life
