Obstetrician Gynecologist

Decent Essays
The story of how I came into this world inspires me to become an Obstetrician Gynecologist because I am determined to pay it forward. My parents come from a traditional African household where males are seen as superior and this fueled my father's passion for a son. But what my father didn't know was that his dream was soon to be deferred yet again because my mother was pregnant with me, her third girl to be exact, and still no son. My mother knew from previous ultimatums that my father would force her to abort me if he found out it was another girl, so she united with her obstetrician gynecologist to keep my gender a secret from my father. This risk and unimaginable act of kindness the obstetrician gynecologist did for my mother saved my life

The act of sacrificing for a greater cause takes courage, bravery and determination because it puts the wellbeing of somebody else above yourself. The excerpt Julia, written by Lillian Hellman, exemplifies a sacrifice filled with love and fear. In my own experience, when someone makes a sacrifice for you, they put aside their happiness and might do things that are outside of their comfort zones to benefitting an individual. Giving something up for the greater good of someone else takes away the happiness and freedom of an individual and replaces it with the determination to continue the overwhelming sacrifice they have decided to take on. In the short story, Julia, written by Lillian Hellman, there are two lifelong friends: Lilly and Julia.…

How ironic, days before the party that was to symbolize me growing up into the “role of a woman” and having a family, I would receive the news that the children I would hope to have I would most likely never be able to have. I think back to the day, I do not remember who was more surprised my mother or me. All my family revolves around family and children; what I thought to be normal no longer is possible for…

My gut sank to an unbearable low as I watched my thirty-two-year-old mother require support to limp just five steps to the restroom; cancer stripped her of life. At twelve-years-old, I felt distraught in my inability to save her and return the endless love that my Haitian parents poured into my nurturing. However, the hope the physicians brought us has inspired me to become a doctor so that I, too, can serve as an envoy of hope to sufferers of illness. My father is a physician I strive to be like. Women and Medicine Throughout history women have always been seen as not being equal to men. Men have been above women when it came to a point where women felt as though they should be given the right to do what they want to do and not fall into society’s norm. As an only child growing up in a middle class family, I learned the value of helping others through my parents. My hard working parents were brought up in Bangladesh, a third-world country in South Asia with devastating poverty. Moreover, my parents are very strict and disciplining individuals; they both loved to help others regardless of their physical endurance, mental health, or economic stability. As role models, they reared me in the belief that my goals in life should include lending a helping hand to others. Furthermore, my empathy for others has encouraged me to aid those in need.…
