Being able to take part in the National Honor Society is a very high honor and I strongly believe that I have the qualities it takes to participate in this program. I believe I have been able to embody the many different pillars of what the National Honor Society stands for and symbolizes. Throughout my life, I have faced many obstacles that I have had to overcome through tenacity and perseverance. Through these types of challenges, I have learned how to overcome issues both big and small and through this, I believe I have learned how to strive to make the right choices, to not hesitate to take initiative, and to maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude. Throughout my school career, I have always made it a mission to participate in activities and classes that present some level of rigor and challenge to help push me so I can learn better academically and emotionally. In recent years I have been recognized for my Maximum Honors during both my Freshman and Sophomore years, maintaining an A- in every class, and within my junior year I achieved High Honors so far, intending to achieve Maximum Honors for the current semester. During middle school, I was placed on the fast track for math, giving me the ability to take honors classes up until sophomore year where I was then able to participate in AP-level courses, of which I am taking three now and intend to take more during my senior year. Through these types of classes, I gained some types of recognition such as an award for scientific achievement, a subject which I am very passionate about and hope to pursue later in my academic career. Since well before middle school, I have enjoyed participating in events such as the Umass Dash and Dine as well as the Hot Chocolate Run, and while I may not have been the best runner or finished top of my age group, I was able to help raise funds and awareness for what each of these races stands for, as well as participate in an event with a very open minded and open-hearted community. This type of friendliness and encouragement from a large group of people inspired me to find other ways to get involved in community activities, which began my journey as a CIT for two summers and eventually led me to become a counselor all of the last summer. With not much knowledge of what to expect from the job, the role of becoming a leader and role model for the campers was not something that I could ignore. As the summer progressed, I found it easier to help guide the campers into making better decisions, better grasped the ability to communicate with my co-counselors, and learned how to balance being serious about my job while keeping camp fun and interesting for the campers; all of these lessons I believe help to contribute to my leadership skills and my ability to work with others while maintaining a good
