Obstacles will arise in the journey of love, this is shown in Sonnet 116. In the first quatrain Shakespeare says: ‘Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments’ The quotes shows that true lovers should not allow objections and obstacles to come in between their love for each other. ‘admit impediments’ refers to when in a wedding the priests asks if there is anyone who objects to the marriage. This also relates to the poem Do not go gentle into that good night, where death can be a huge obstacle in the journey of love, and can cause one to become enraged and upset. The removal of obstacles in a relationship, romantic or unconditional, can only occur when a couple have a purpose together.
Love gives a couple purpose and direction in their life; this is shown in sonnet 116. In the second quatrain Shakespeare refers to love by using the metaphor ‘the star to every wandering bark.’ ‘The star’ is a reference to the North Star which in those days was used to navigate around the ocean; in this context it means the one bright light in a sea of darkness. The North Star would bring about emotions of hope and guidance, just like love would. ‘Wandering bark’ in this sense refers to a wandering person who has no purpose,

In the first line of the first quatrain it says ‘Remember me when I am gone.’ This use of an imperative sentence in the first line sets the tone for the rest of the octave. This quotes shows that people can misuse love by writing wills and letters about their death, this can often tie the lover to his or hers dead partner allowing them to be constantly sad, and not allowing them to move on with their lives. This is a contrast to after the volta where the tone of the poem is selfless and focused more on the other person in the relationship. This relates to sonnet 116 where Shakespeare says that ‘love’s not Time’s fool’ as this shows that one who has died will always be loved and

Sonnet 120 is a reflection of sonnets 33-35, though leaning more to Sonnet 34 because of the fact that he uses the word ‘once’ in the first phrase. Sonnet 120 is about the unfaithfulness that existed between him and an unnamed friend and how much pain it has caused them. In the first line Shakespeare inform his reader that his beloved had shown him unkindness at certain point of time. The song then states that the woman had no fear as she ran to him and as promised she flew away with him. The only logical assumption is that the woman was so distraught from the death of her lover that she killed herself to be with him. The woman, much like Juliet did with Romeo had that faith that she would be with him in the afterlife. So this song deals heavily with the thought of an afterlife and the message of this song is that when you die, you’ll be with loved ones again so you should not fear death. The last poem does not glorify death, it has a real outlook on…

By personifying love, it is communicating the idea that love is a force that guides a person’s actions, which is further developed by the end of the tragedy when two young lovers kill themselves because their love for one another compels them to act in the most extreme of ways, ending their lives so that they can be with the one they love in death. Additionally, in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare explores how love can defy all logic and how it is practically a drug, “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind; and therefore is wing 'd Cupid painted blind (A Midsummer Night 's Dream, 1.1). Shakespeare even introduces a humorous display of how love is blind when he has a beautiful fairy princess fall in love with a man with the head of an ass. Many sonnets of the time also expressed how people felt about love. One of these sonnets by Sir Phillip Sidney, My True Love Hath My Heart, shows in words how strong love can be for a person.…

The word “love” is obviously being emphasized with its constant repetition, yet the connotation differs from the first stanza to the latter ones. In the first stanza, “ Love [ stands] the night-watch guarding a girl’s soft cheek…” (Sophocles 881-882). In this phrase, love is a force that guards people and keeps them safe. This light hearted diction is Sophocles, in a way, alluding to Haemon and Antigone’s love before this plight of her carrying on funeral rites for the body of Polynices.…

It is an ever-fixed mark" (2-5) to suggest that "love" is not true love if it changes because impediments should not exist in regards to true love. Impediments, generally, are found in traditional wedding ceremonies and involve the constitution of wedding vows. In the case of true love, no obstacles should exist in “true minds” because true love is constant, eternal, and strong despite the pressures of the world that hinder relationships. Shakespeare implicitly implores that true love is firm and does not get easily influenced, "alters", or "bends" with the slightest interference. Meanwhile, Bradstreet 's speaker informs the reader about her overwhelming affections for her husband.…

An Explication of Love: “Sonnet 130” Shakespeare’s “Sonnet 130” is a powerful poem that describes love as something based off of more than mere beauty. The poem depicts the speaker pointing out the many imperfections of his mistress. This is a far cry from the ideal women many poets depict. An English or Shakespearean sonnet consists of fourteen lines “composed of three quatrains and a terminal couplet in iambic pentameter with the rhyme pattern abab cdcd efef gg” (“Shakespearean sonnet”). In “Sonnet 130,” Shakespeare establishes a shifting tone through the quatrain structure, words that target the senses, and a repetition of words and poem structure that can be related to many aspects of love.…
