People reading Animal Farm can understand the animals because of what they both have in common: a dislike of authority. Another connection the animals have with readers is placing blame on others. “The rats, which had been troublesome that winter, were also said to be in league with Snowball” (Orwell 78). The animals had been blaming Snowball for all their problems, even though the problems had nothing to do with him. People always blame others for their mistakes and misfortunes.…

Animal Farm is an allegory as it has parallels to the Soviet Union and the possibility of totalitarianism. The phrase in the book "All animals are equal but some are more equal than others" is a good satire on the facade of equality that communism in Russia at the time had. The pigs were the communist idealist, some of them being representatative of ones present in Soviet Russia, and they had a plan to overthrow the farmer, Mr. Jones, who is like the old tzars of Russia. The farm goes from a monarchy, to communist government, to a totalitarian government, resulting in Napoleon, the head pig, having complete control over everything in the farm. In the end, the communist idealist pigs turn into just what they had overthrown, and the rest of the animals could no longer tell them apart from the humans.…

Adlai E. Stevenson once said “... the truth is often unpopular…” In other words, the truth is often either untold or bent. In this quote, Stevenson is trying to convey that telling the truth is not always the choice that people choose to make. They always try to bend the truth for themselves so that their sense of dignity and pride would not fade away. It shows that being dishonest is more likely to occur than being truthful.…

One way we are shown in this extract that the pigs are in control would be through the revelation that the pigs have been educating themselves in private, without the other animals knowing about it. The pigs “now revealed that during the past three months they had taught themselves to read and write” and the other animals were not part of this education, which suggests the pigs had control over how much they wanted the other animals to know and, if the pigs didn’t want the other animals to learn things or even know what the pigs were up to behind closed doors, the pigs wouldn’t allow that to happen. This is as a result of the intelligence that the pigs have due to teaching themselves from “an old spelling book which had belonged to Mr. Jones’s children and which had been thrown on the rubbish heap” that the other animals didn’t have access to. The fact the pigs ‘revealed’ this to the animals suggests that they knew it was unjust to prevent the other animals from having access to the same information as them and so they wanted to keep it a secret for as long as possible so that they could have enough knowledge to take control of the animals. This prevented the animals from being able to stop the pigs from taking control because they were not at the same level of intelligence to do so.…

The overall theme of Animal Farm by George Orwell is inequality and power. “For the time being, the young pigs were given the instructions by Napoleon himself in farmhouse kitchen. They took their exercise in the garden, and were discouraged from playing with the other young animals” (Orwell pg. 96). Inequality between the animals arose through the leadership of Napoleon, who is a pig as well, with Squealer, his speaker and is a pig. Piglets were given special treatment because they were thought to be smarter than all the other animals, and for this their health is very important to all the animals; they will lead the farm to success as did Napoleon.…

Animal Farm’s struggles with social hierarchy, political dominance, and different ideas of what the balance of nature is echo happenstances throughout all history, and the major plot runs the same: nothing ever really changes. People (or animals) can change how they think about things, and they may feel like things have changed, but there is always a delicate balance between good and bad, yet nothing is truly black or white. Animal Farm merely expands on the idea that not only does nothing change, but in the end we all have the seed of corruption within us waiting to blossom at the right…
