“The Alchemist”

“The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho is a quest of a young teenage boy who has a dream of being rich and successful much like Paulo Coelho. Teens all have desires and dreams set out into the world with success in mind. Life can interfere in order to put you in the direction we need to be in. Life is full of obstacles. Paulo Coelho and Santiago both find obstacles that guide them in different directions. Is this divine intervention? Are we just moving on through the path that was meant for us to take in order to find ourselves?

In “The Alchemist” Santiago was the main character that had to go on a quest in order to find buried treasure in order to find his personal legend. Santiago’s belief in himself, his confidence and his strength did help him on this quest. This was a quest Santiago and Paulo Coelho had to take in order to find their success. During Santiago’s quest he met many characters and had many obstacles. Did this have to happen to help him on his path or did they just interfere with his quest to find his personal legend?

Even though they both have different dreams they both had similar events and obstacles that moved them on their way to success. Paulo Coelho and Santiago had dreams of being successful. Paulo Coelho’s parents wanted him to be a successful lawyer. In addition Santiago

We do not understand why we should be so fortunate as to achieve our dream when so many others have not. This is the most dangerous of the obstacles, because there is an aura of martyrdom around it, around sacrificing your happiness and success for the sake of others. However, if you truly believe yourself worthy of the dream you worked so hard to achieve, then you should finish what you started and understand that in doing so, you have contributed to the betterment of the universe.” The connection with the author and Santiago is prevalent because he never gave up on what he wanted for
