Obstacles In Teamwork

There have been two main obstacles throughout the duration of this process. The first is finding time to interview our subjects. I am at dance from right after school until 10 pm every night, and my teachers are too. Finding time between that and school or previous work for them was a little difficult, but we found breaks in our schedules that overlapped. Luckily, my group is pretty flexible with time. The second is distribution of work. While writing the proposal, it seemed that Mansi and I did most of the work. I expected to have quite the workload with this topic with initial information and contacting the interviewees since I have the biggest connection, but if Mansi could contribute as much as or possibly even more than me, I feel like Alyssa and Tina could’ve as well. At KJ, where we have done a majority of our filming, there are always classes and loud music, so it took a few trials to find spots that were light and open enough that also didn’t have music blaring. We expected all of our interviews to be shorter than they ended up being. With planning, follow-up questions, and extended answers, the interviews with Audrea and Jeff lasted about 45 minutes rather than 15, which was our predicted time. Using this trend, we had to find longer periods of time for our other interviewees so as to ensure we would get the material we needed. Although I see these teachers every day, and I’ve heard their story a thousand times, asking more specific questions has helped me learn a lot about the people and dance in general. Being a dancer, this topic applies to me directly, so hearing the inside scoop on the industry is beneficial to my training.
