I became a college student after just two years in high school and undoubtedly, that has been the best decision I have ever made. I have placed myself in many situations where I thought, “this is the end, and it is never going to work” and I surprised myself every single time. The biggest challenge facing potential college students is the means of how they will be able to afford to go. In this day and age most people have to work a minimum of 40 hours per week just to survive. The average college tuition has increased by almost 200% in the last 20 years, outpacing the average household income significantly. If college tuition rates were lowered, there would be a great increase in the number of high school graduates who would be able to afford and attend colleges.…

The next essay I found to assist in evidential analysis was Validation Experiences and Persistence among Community College Students by Elisabeth A. Barnett. Barnett this research contributes to the understanding of college student departure decisions as they help determine factors related to persistence. Only 34% of all college students graduate with a degree from a two or four-year college. Only 3 out of 10 students who start at community colleges full-time graduate with an associate degree in three years(CE6). Her sample represented a student demographic and included ages from seventeen to seventy-one, with an average age of twenty-five.…

Most movies portray high school students as one dimensional. They include peppy cheerleaders and dumb jocks whose lives seem perfect. Nerds eat by the dumpsters and get picked on by the school's bully. Although sometimes these characters exist, everyone has some unique quality that few others know about. Throughout my life, I’ve had to deal with multiple obstacles such as raising my little sister as my own, deciding which high school to attend, and learning how to adjust to my dual enrollment course.…

One of the main reason incoming freshmen and young adults are caught in the college misconceptions is due the media, especially movies. When I was younger, I used to believe everything the media taught, anything I watched in a movie was a reality. As I grew older, I began to understand that movies are not reality. These college articles were really intriguing and corrected a lot of misconceptions I had mainly on submitting a college application and being accepted. I read the “The 3 most common college application mistakes” by Miranda Foreman first, which will help me a lot with writing an honest and informative essay about myself for college soon. I plan on going to UTSA and though I know the acceptance rate is somewhat high I think it would still be beneficial to write a good college application as there is a possibility I could get financial help or impress them somehow. I was not aware that trying to write too many things in my college application essay could draw away from its impact on them.…
