Mrs. Peters was an 55 year old caucation female, who was admitted to the rehabilitation for weakness and mobility training due to the fact that she was obsese and would prefer to lay in bed and have her husband complete everything else including doing her ADL's. We all know the saying "if you don't use it you lose it". Doctors was afraid if something didn't change soon she wouldn't make past her 58th birthday. She need to learn how to walk and take care of herself again.

The First few days in rehab Mrs. Peters refused to do anything. However, on the fourth day the OT took action and explained to Mrs. Peters

PT 826 Reading Assignment The information given in the article by Lau, Chiu, & Lam (2010) about using thoracic manipulation for the treatment of neck pain was very new to me. There were several instances in the past where I treated patients with neck pain by giving mobilizations techniques and modalities in and around cervical area. While observing Occupational Therapy Assistant Fatima deCouto-Garcia, (a BCC program OTA graduate), at The New Bedford Rehab Hospital, we were tasked with focusing on recognizing the performance skill deficits and contextual factors that brought a client to seek Occupational Therapy services. The facility we visited is considered an acute long term rehabilitation hospital and the patients we observed each had complex multi-facetted symptoms, diagnosis and treatment protocols. For the purpose of this reflection we will focus on one patient, a 45 year old woman, Jane Doe, who 6 weeks prior had her left leg amputated above the knee. Prior to beginning the masters of occupational therapy program it was as if I was an ancient wanderer in the dark ages, eager to learn new ideas and discover new places not sure what the world would throw at me next. Over the next eight years I found myself at a series of personal crossroads one encounters during life’s journey. Not the crossroad where one sells their soul to the devil for some magical power. It was more of one of those forks in the road, a kin to the Robert Frost Poem, where one path leads to life A and the other leads to life B. Crossroads that impacted my future, shaped who I am and my character, influenced life changes, which led to a transition that will influence me and my family for generations to come. I come from…

The “Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process” (American Occupational Therapy Association, 2014) stresses the importance of how occupation, performance patterns and skills, and contexts influence a client’s occupational performance. One of the biggest occupational performances that is hindered is the occupation of activities of daily living (ADL). ADLs may be affected because of balance problems, fatigue, or muscle impairments, so bathing, dressing, and functional mobility may be impacted (American Occupational Therapy Association, 2014). Work is another occupation that will be highly affected because clients cannot return to work until they are cleared by a doctor and job performances may be declined. Leisure, social participation, sleep, and instrumental activities of daily living are also affected to some degree (Powell et al., 2016).…
