Justification for Diagnosis: Jeremy’s diagnosis is obsessive-compulsive personality disorder based on the information provided in the case study. Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) is characterized by an excessive pattern of perfectionism, orderliness and control, often at the cost of being flexible or efficient in their daily lives. One symptom of a person with this disorder is the intense commitment they give to their work, often choosing it over relaxation or friends. Then since she would not listen to his advice to adhere to the recipe, he restarted the whole dish as hers was “ruined” and the dish ended up not being completed for the party. This example illustrates two symptoms of Jeremy’s OCPD, one symptom is that his perfectionism interferes with being able to finish tasks where in this case the dish was not finished in time. The second symptom is his inability is give tasks to others if they do not follow his exact way of performing the tasks, i.e. he took over making the dish since Claire did not follow the exact recipe. On his vacation with his girlfriend, he had a strong desire to maintain an exact schedule and became anxious when they were 15 minutes behind schedule since Claire was looking at a store. This shows he is preoccupied with details, order, lists, schedules etc. to the extent the purpose of the activity is lost, in this case the purpose would have been to have fun on vacation with his girlfriend. Jeremy’s actions in the examples with his girlfriend show his inflexibility and stubbornness to situations, which is also another quality of OCPD. Another symptom
