Of these thoughts who are the individuals being affected by Obsessive Compulsive Disorder it is believed that 6 to 9 million Americans are suffering from OCD. This disorder does not discriminate and can impact children, young adults, adults and the elderly. It is not a gender based disorder affecting men and women. It is not a cultural bias disorder affecting any human brain of any cultural background. It is believed that a person’s genetics can make them vulnerable to this disorder but testing has not proven to have a positive link at this time. Substance abuse such as the use of cocaine and marijuana can cause the onset of the disorder. Stress can also induce OCD symptoms although no clear connection has been made at this time.
