My Observation At Mcfall Elementary

My observation hours were spent in a kindergarten classroom at McFall Elementary in Middleville, my home town. I observed Mrs. Young’s class of twenty-five students. I enjoyed observing in this classroom since it was my former teacher and classroom when I was in kindergarten as well. While observing, I could see many different subjects being taught, and multiple ways in which they were taught. Also, it was interesting to notice the reactions the kids gave towards a certain teaching style or towards a specific activity. Observing in this class was a good learning experience and helpful towards learning various techniques I can use within my classroom. The characteristics and descriptions of the students in this classroom were mostly all the …show more content…
Some of the hands-on activities done throughout the day are with the calendar, weather, and number for the day. They put up the date for the day and discusses the weather outside. Along with this, they have a song that counts to one hundred that they sing during this time, and a child points to the number as they sing. The kids really enjoyed this, and it’s something I want to incorporate into my classroom as well as other unique activities. The learning aids within the classroom are helpful for each student and each learning style. Some of the tools are, tablets, books, the projector, building blocks, and coloring stations. These services are used quite a bit with learning, some more than others. In my classroom, I’m sure I’ll have some similar tools that will be useful for the children, but then I’ll be able to incorporate tools I think will be helpful. The numerous tools they had in the one classroom, I thought was very helpful and beneficial for all the …show more content…
I realized that teachers sometimes should redesign their lessons in a way that will best suit their students. That means I must think on the spot on certain days or the day before, on how I can teach this in a way my students will understand better. I believe I can do that and with a little more practice and knowledge, it will come easier. After my observations, I still believe I want to pursue a teaching career. I love watching the kids learn and grow in their abilities, and am capable of knowing when kids need to help and to give them that help. I hope to bring fun into my classroom with different learning games and activities we do; to have it be a safe and welcoming environment for the kids to

    2. Why did you decide to become a teacher? Both of my parents are teachers, so growing up there was one thing that I knew for sure: that I was not going to follow in their footsteps. I had dreams of dressing up and working in an office. Observing the class from an outside perspective made me realize that I wouldn't really have the patience to become a teacher, especially a 6th grade teacher. I do have way more respect for teachers and what they do now though, because they do have to put in lots of hard work and extra hours in which can be quite strenuous. Another reason why teaching really wouldn't be a career that I would do is because I don't really enjoy repeating myself the whole day. Observing that class made me realize that the teacher basically talks and repeats everything for the whole day. Don't get me wrong though there are some positive things about teaching.…

Since I plan on becoming a pre-kindergarten teacher in a star facility daycare, I believe it is important to observe eight hours a day, forty hours a week. Since children are four to five years old, observing is very important. Children, at that age, are still developing in areas such as: social, physical, language, and cognitive. However, children who are in grade school will be more developed in those areas. Therefore, observing wouldn’t be as important.…

There is no substitute for activities in a classroom that require your hands. (Cleaver). Ideas like this show just how important these activities are, especially for a student’s cognitive learning.
