Observe The Note-Taking Process Analysis

Chapter 5, Notes: Observe the Note-taking Process pp.166-168 The first topic that resonated with me from this article is bringing the right materials. On the night before class, I always prepare the necessary materials; calculators, laptop, pencils, erasers, paper, and etc. What distinguishes a poor student from a good student is the readiness and preparation set forth by themselves. The idea of watching for clues seems to be logical and might work for some, but spending too much time on it can be distracting. I prefer to take notes then decide whether or not something is more important than another based on other aspects. With comments ranging from the easy difficulty level, to the procrastination stories of starting assignments on the day it’s due. However, I felt that it just wasn’t the same as taking the same course in a classroom setting. Fast-forward a few years, technology has steadily increased, with almost all of my courses having online PowerPoints at my fingertips. It was obvious that students would take advantage of this, and skip class. However, if you’re paying for a service, I’d expect to get the full experience. The second concept that resonated with me within this article is responsibility. I feel that it is one’s responsibility to show up to class on time (or at least within a decent margin). Not only is it distracting and disruptive for the students in class (especially with the squeaky doors), it is completely disrespectful towards the presenters. This also applies to online courses. Just because an assignment’s deadline is set for a specific date, should not mean you start it the day of. After reading this article, I intend to keep my responsibilities that have been put in place since high school. This includes being prepared, and showing initiative towards my studies. I intend to keep this goal for the next few years and probably in the workplace. Furthermore, I intend to add onto this goal with another goal, specifically to improve myself at every opportunity.
