Observations Of Trump Rhetorical Analysis

Observations of Trump: Blurred background, clear foreground. He is dressed up in a black suit and white shirt with gold yellow tie. Trump is holding a red golfing bat and he has a huge smile. His eyes are squinted with wrinkles and bags around it while he gives a big smile showing his teeth. Trump’s hair seemed to be half controlled.
Ethos: His ability to be just another guy who plays golf. In a suit.
Logos: I’m a golf guy too, just like you.
Pathos: His smile is bright, happy, inviting. Makes him looked like a people person but forced in some way. Hair, almost contained.
Kairos: Does not have sense of timing.

Just a guy in a suite at, what seemed to be a golf course. However as simple as it seems, people don’t smile or take pictures for no reason. The rhetorical appeal that is presented here could be both ethos, logos and pathos. It is ethos because Trump here is able to convince people of his character or credibility. To illustrate, his character in this picture is giving the sense that he is just an average guy who is having a great time playing golf. Yet, he’s wearing a suit and tie to the field. This is different than any regular golf players, therefore, it gives the impression of “I am just like you, just slightly different in finance level”. Of all his pictures on google, there is not a single one of him without a suit. Suit is a formal attire, in that manner Trump is giving off the effects of importance. It is logos because it gives the audience the logic of common interest such as “Look, he loves golf, I do too, therefore he must have the same views as me!” It is not uncommon for people of same interest group to relate and like each other. This, of course leads to the last appeal: pathos. Smiling gives of a warm impression of a welcoming person. Because of the way he is smiling, people might think, “He must be a good guy!” The timing if the image does not have anything much. However, if this photo were to be on a campaign at a golf club, then it will add number of votes for Trump since his intended audience—middle to elder age men will be seeing

This tweet written by Donald Trump is an example of the fallacy of begging the question because he contradicts his initial argument by doing the act of what he stated he would never do. Trump’s premise states that Bette Midler is an “extremely unattractive women”, however he continues by writing that he would never admit that because he believes in being politically correct. This is begging the question because he blatantly tweeted his thoughts about her and posted them online for everyone to see. Although he says he “refuses to say that”, in the same sentence, he does.…

First Presidential Debate After watching the first of three presidential debates, I felt that, despite the unconventional campaigns of 2016, the debate proved informative and revealing of both candidates. Moderated by NBC News anchor Lester Holt, the debate took place at Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY between candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. The primary topics of the debate were released one week before the debate (“CPD”). While the questions were not released prior to the debate, Lester Holt provided fair and satisfactory questions for each candidate. Assisted by the format which ensured equal opportunities to respond to both candidates, the questions did not seem to play to either candidates’ advantage.…

Although Donald Trump - the current GOP presidential leader - likes to brag, these are not the traits that he can brag about. If we go back to presidential cycles prior to 2008, and ask the question, could a person like Donald Trump be elected president? The answer would be a resounding no because the political climate then was not influenced by the kind of political shenanigans we have today. Donald Trump is not the first wealthy man that has ventured into the political arena to contest the presidential election.…

According to Aristotle, logos is an appeal to logic, and is a way of persuading an audience by reason. Obama goes back and states facts, statistics and historical events where he had been successful as president. Obama does this to persuade the audience to continue his successes and to fight equal rights. He does this by listing several statistics on inequality, for example, “ Health care costs are rising at the slowest rate in 50 years. And I’ve said, and I mean it, anyone can put together a plan that is demonstrably better than the improvements we’ve made to our health care system, that covers as many people at less cost, I will publicly support it.”…
