How Does Chemistry Affect The Body

Whether we notice it or not, chemistry lives in our bodies. Things such as skin conditions, digestion, breathing, and hair growth all deal with chemistry in their own way. They all have certain chemical reactions and chemical changes that affect the way our bodies work. Even though we study different curriculums during chemistry such as the chemical equations, chemical reactions, and other things we have learned go far beyond what is said in class.

During food digestion there are chemical and physical changes occurring. One chemical change for example would be, metabolic rate which is the rate of energy that is released from macronutrients. Carbohydrates (Glucose: C6H12O6), proteins (Alanine(amino acid) CH3) , and fats (Lauric

The bones in our body are formed mainly by salts of Calcium (Ca) and Phosphorous (P) and are the structural components that keep our body sturdy and gives us our shape. Bones are very strong solid materials in which its molecules are very close together but have little to no movement. Our body also has its sort of natural highways for blood to flow through called veins. Veins allow the transportation of blood throughout our body and transport things such as nutrients and Oxygen (O) to keep our body in stable conditions. This is made possible due to the fact that blood is a liquid. Blood unlike bones has molecules that move around more freely and faster and adapt to its shape or container and can flow at whatever speed a exerting force (in this case our heart) can pump it to. These speeds of course vary depending on the amount of physical activity the human body is doing and the amount of oxygen needed for us to still be in a stable condition. In order for the blood to flow through your body and complete one of its many tasks of transporting oxygen one must breathe. Now, there 's more to breathing than just inhaling and exhaling, even breathing deals with Chemistry. The atmosphere contains 78%Nitrogen (N), 21% Oxygen, .9% Argon (Ar), .3% Carbon Dioxide, and small amounts of other gases. We breathe in these gases …show more content…
The most common periodic trends include electronegativity, atomic radius and ionization energy. In order to find the trend for electronegativity on the periodic table you have to start from left to right then from top to bottom.(Luarel, 2008) Electronegativity increases as you go across the periodic table and as you go down they increases. This is because its ability to attract electron becomes greater as you go to the right and becomes smaller as you go down. Atomic radius increases are you go down and decreases as you go across because as you go across it gains another electron cloud and as you go down you gain protons and electrons which pulls the cloud in towards the nucleus making it decrease. (Luarel, 2008). Lastly Ionization Energy increases as you go across and decreases as you down the periodic table. If the electrons are closer to the nucleus it makes it harder to remove from small atoms.(Luarel,
