Unit 4 Discussion 2 Evidence Based Practice The trend towards evidence based practice (EBP) has increased with the implementation of the chronic disease management performed by nurses. Laughlin and Beisel (2010) reported the results of a pilot study regarding the evolution of the nurse role in a primary care setting as a member of the treatment team for chronic illness. Laughlin and Beisel (2010) focused attention on the skill sets nurses provided in care of chronic conditions emphasizing that nurses are uniquely qualified to assess the needs of patients with chronic illness and to formulate a plan for and coordination of care (p. 414). Barriers to EBP were acceptance of nurses in the role as members of the care team and lack of education…
The primitive element of Evidence Base Practice is to personalize the evidence to fulfill distinct patient need within the context ((Polit & Beck, 2012, p. 25). paper includes the summary of an Evidence Based Practice implementation on reduction on hospital acquired Cather-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) in a community hospital setting. The key points, list of steps taken by nursing, a practice problem that would benefit from the implementation of an EBP are explained here. The result of the study with a conclusion is also enclosed.…
Participant A 1. Would you rather wear a laundered shirt that had been previously worn by someone you like, someone you dislike, or someone you don’t know? Please explain. Within this mini study survey, my participant responded that it did not matter if the clothing was laundered from someone he liked or someone he disliked or even from a complete stranger as long as the clothing was washed.…
Greetings LDP Cohort X Applicants: Thank you for submitting your Leadership Development Program Cohort X application earlier this year. CCHHS appreciates the time you took to review and respond to the application questions and your interest in continually developing yourself. The Leadership Development Program began nearly 5 years ago, culminating successfully with the graduation of LDP Cohort I in December of 2013. Over the past five years, there have been frequent updates to the existing program to ensure we are constantly providing an experience that will benefit our participants and the Health System as well. Along those lines, we have decided a re-evaluation the program again to ensure the content and program outcomes aligns with our…
Poor physical fitness is more harmful for health and longevity than what people expect it to be. The article “Being Unfit May Be Almost as Bad for You as Smoking”, by the author Gretchen Reynolds, is about a study that proves being out of shape as more bad than smoking. People who have low physical fitness tend to be at a high risk of premature death, whereas athletic people with healthy aerobic capacity have longer lives. The study included information about aerobic capacity, blood pressure, cholesterol profile and history of smoking to compare the participants. Smoking had the most impact to shorten lives, but people with low aerobic capacity had a 21% higher of dying prematurely than those with middling aerobic capacity, and 42% higher of…
Evidence- based practice is essential to the delivery of highest quality care and improve patient outcome. It will increase empowerment of health care provider, reduce health care costs, reduce complications and health care provider turnover rate. When best evidence used in patient care, the outcome is improving. EBP involving integration of a problem-solving approach within the context of caring…
Throughout the entire semester, I incorporated evidence based practice into my clinical days. Whether if I was performing a skill or if I was observing my nurse do a skill, I was thinking is this evidence based. I observed nurses use water instead of alcohol to clean an area on the skin before pricking a patient’s finger for a blood glucose check; this I knew was evidenced based. Some none evidence based thing that I observed were using 5/8inch needles when the nurse should have been using a 1inch length or not using two hands when assessing a patient’s fundus. I met my midterm goal of telling the nurse nicely that this is not what we learned in school.…
Clinical guidelines was developed for use in the practice setting. It is based on evidence based and are useful tools in the practice setting. They are supposed to guide practice setting, however, it does not replace critical thinking, judgment and experience (Schmidt & Brown, 2015). The guidelines that stood out to me when reading the National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC) is nutrition and physical activity for cancer survivor patient.…
Longitudinal Observation of One Female Child Who Attended a Forest Kindergarten: The Analysis of Her First Year Experience Focusing on the Development of Her Individuality The purpose of this research is to conduct a longitudinal study of one female child for three years in order to observe the developmental modification of her independent activities in a Forest Kindergarten, outdoor nursery with few restrictions by adults. In this article we analyzed the first-year video record taken once a month from April 2015 to March 2016.…
It is not uncommon that patients are discharged early and return to the emergency room with symptoms of leakage after several days. The patient delay that is created has far-reaching consequences, with late leaks (>5 days) being associated with more complex treatment and adverse outcome. It is of upmost importance to treat this complication as early as possible, and thus establish an early diagnosis. Clinical observations could be of more importance in speeding up this process.…
Discussion Post Week Eight NURS6551, N-6 As advanced practice nurses (APN) and primary providers, we must ensure that our pregnant patients have the necessary information for the most optimal pregnancy. Therefore, one must individualize the educational material to suit the patient population they serve. This week I will evaluate the type of media that is most appropriate for the women I serve and discuss the topic of primary focus and why this is the most suitable education media and topic for my pregnant female population.…
In order to study how people do or don’t change over a period of time, researchers have to conduct a series of researches. Those researches being a cross-sectional research, longitudinal research, and a cross-sequential research. In cross-sectional research the study involves looking and comparing people who differ in a key characteristic being age but are similar in many other important characteristics. Cross-sectional research is beneficial because researchers can collect a great amount of data in a quick period of time and it is very inexpensive to do. Weaknesses of cross-sectional research is that it is difficult to ensure that the large group being compared share similarities in every other thing besides age.…
B. Learning Objectives: (List 2-4 of your clinical objectives from your week/group of shifts – remember, you should begin each shift with 2-3 clinical objectives.) 1. Improve parent education techniques. 2. Practice therapeutic communication techniques.…
Going into the interview sessions we were not sure what to expect when conducting our interviews. Asking personal questions to someone is never easy and if you are not used to communicating with elderly patients then it can be intimidating. Our group consisted of four members who each interviewed one elderly individual using the same questions we decided on in the beginning. The questions started with the basics such as age, gender, what medications they are currently taking, and then got into what, if anything, was currently causing problems. Based on this information, we then started asking about daily activities such as preparing food, exercising, and overall living arrangements each of our individuals had.…
The health goal that I decided to accomplish was to run a mile in 8 minutes or less by December 1st. This particular health goal was chosen for the reason that I felt my cardiovascular endurance could use improvement in comparison to my sprinting speed. It was a weak point that I want to address because when sprinting, I could not maintain my speed for long periods of time or distances. In addition, I plan to join the track team in the spring and hope to prepare myself for it. I made two action plans to alternate between for each week from research on what was an effective workout to increase my cardiovascular endurance.…
