For my second observation, I observed behavior at Pinecreek Elementary School in the Brookville School District which contains grades one through two. I observed in the speech therapy room which is a separate room where kids get pulled out of class to receive therapy. I watched two sets of students, one was an individual therapy session and the other was a group of two students. Since the school is so small it is only necessary for there to be one speech pathologist, Mrs. Martz.…

To me, this implicates that the kids did not receive a proper education and they were not in a welcoming environment. I believe in order for kids to achieve their best in school, they need a respectful and friendly environment. I do not think I can learn in a classroom where I have to constantly look over my shoulder because I do not feel safe. One teacher compared the school to a prison:” We can’t leave school; we can’t come early or on the weekends to do preparatory work. We are like prisoners.…

This observation was interesting and different from previous observations I have done, for this was my first time observing a high school classroom. From my understanding the students in the room were in grades 9-12. When I arrived Ms.Boucher was giving announcements for the week. Then three students did a book talk.…

The other preschool classroom I observed was the Desert Vista High School Early Learning Center. The indoor environment of their classroom is smaller than my dream classroom but there is many different places for the children and students to play with toys, games and sing silly songs. Their indoor environment is very energetic because of the places and things that the children can play and do in the classroom with their classmates and teachers which is important because they want the children to have fun and feel safe. The outside environment is very cool because the children are able to do what they want and play and run off some energy but they are also able to play some pretty cool games with other children. There daily schedule is very simple because…

When I was in the first grade, I was considered a goody two-shoes because I followed all the rules and got good grades, but I never really believed that I deserved the nickname until one day on the playground. My friends and I decided to play Follow the Leader. As we continued to play the game, we started to sing all of the songs we had learned in class. I began to wonder, are we allowed to sing outside during recess?…

While observing I observed the teacher switch classrooms with two students to see if they would enjoy and behave better during circle time. They had success and are now switching on a regular basis. They offered a change of environment and it was very helpful to the students. To prevent potty accidents she offers regular bathroom breaks but has specific times for bathroom breaks too. She brings in kids that are potty training first, then those who are trained, and last are those are still in diapers but not training.…

I found it quite interesting how in public schools in the Chicago area I have experienced seeing how teachers treat children differently. Inside an early start Pre-k class beforehand the teacher and her assistant gave me a bit of information about the students to retain when I had to work with them one-on-one. Furthermore in the process of them informing me of their behaviors, what to expect, what not to expect, and reasons why some have some sorts of trouble do to their families background. She emphasized more so on the boys in the class rather than the girls. However she did say there are two sisters in her class and that one whose name was Shayteria was really shy and she barely spoke in class.…

Some aspects of the reading make sense to me but I am not able to fully grasp how the whole idea works. In Case 1.1 I can relate because this has happened when I was a long term substitute in a Pre-Kindergarten classroom. I would ask a question and it was always the same students answering over and over again. I believe that the solution presented in the case could possibly work but I also believe it varies on the age of the students and possibly even the school district you are in. In Case 1.2 I remember being the student that was always ready but had to wait for all the other students who “were not on the ball” to put up their stuff.…

In this class, the teachers use directive words and sentences more often at this observation period. Although there are many directive and orderly verbal requests are heard in the classroom, the teachers show respect and talk nicely to children. Ms.Katie uses simple, firm, and directive words to children, however she show that she cares about children and tries to make every moment into the learning opportunities. Because of the time and activity of the observation, the children seem restless, and the teachers are busy completing their duties and supervising children at the same time. This situation is understandable with twenty-five preschool children in a large classroom during the transition time.…
