Observation Report

William Loesche Elementary is an exceptional school for what I have seen thus far. The community as a whole is warm and welcoming. I was pleasantly surprised when I met my cooperating teacher. She greeted my partner and I with a smile and told us a little bit about her self. I was instantly intrigued when Mrs. Timber told us that she was a Temple University graduate because I felt like I could quickly relate to her. Mrs. Timber told us about her prior experiences and the many up’s and downs she has had. For instance, the last school she worked in was about to lay her off until she stumbled upon Loasche and fell in love with it, she has been there and teaching third grade for the past three years. Mrs. Trimber’s class is

Trimber teaching style. The objectives are always written on the blackboard and she refers to them before every lesson and had the children read them aloud. Students are seated in-group tables, table 1, 2, 3, and 4. Majority of the in-class work is completed together by their group tables, “ I like the way the kids bounce ideas of each other” Mrs. Trimber explained. For example, they did a main idea lesson where the teacher passed out four different bags for each table. In the bags there were different materials, such as a bag full of materials used to make a cake, a bag full of items to mail a letter, a bag full of things needed to have a movie night at home, and a bag that had items needed to help a head cold. Students were instructed to work together, observe the materials in the bag, and come up with the main idea based on the materials in the bag. The students loved this activity and I appreciated the incorporation of many of the temple standards such as critical and creative thinking, Mrs. Trimber also incorporates coherence and continuity and real world connections in her lessons by relating all of her subjects to each other in some way. For example, she had the class as a whole create a bar and tally graph about if they thought bats were cute or creepy before a literacy lesson. Mrs. Trimber also incorporates deep content and understanding and active learning in her lesson by teaching in a variety of ways. For example, during a math lesson she had the students get up to act as a number line so the kids could see it in a different

I believe that the school's location within the Cobb County area is close to a suburban or rural area because there is development but is not a major city such as Kennesaw. The previous data collected and my experience from visiting today reflects a sense of need for education in the area. The classroom had approximately 25-30 students in this small area. Although, the classroom seemed cramped the teacher worked with the materials and “tools” she was given. Many challenges that teachers in this school could possibly face is the problem of low-income families [referring to the high percentage of free and reduced lunches].…

We are writing this letter on behalf of our daughter Haley Forman. She is currently in Mrs. Mallozzi’s fourth grade class and has had a tremendous year! We are thrilled she is happy and attribute it to Mrs. Mallozzi’s kind and caring approach and her willingness to find ways to draw Haley out and engage her that has made all the difference. It is our hope that she be matched with fifth grade teacher with a similar style. Please place her with an experienced teacher who has the patience, creativity and kindness Mrs. Mallozzi has shown Haley this year.…

During my time at Heather Hills, I had the privilege of having a plethora of devoted teachers who truly wished to see me succeed. These teachers latched onto the slightest promises of intelligence that my fifth-grade self could exhibit, and tenderly nurtured the minimal skills that I had into a student who, at the time, performed at the top of his class. Heather Hills was a place in which I was enabled to flourish as a student. It was within the walls of the school that I was able to accomplish all manner of academic achievement, ranging from a regional math championship to being an honorable mention in the school’s “Write a Book” competition. Because the school facilitated these competitions, I was provided with a method by which I could accomplish things I never believed I could.…

Field Journal 8 This week in my CT’s Kindergarten classroom I got to take a glance on grading papers along with holding a writing group. Today was an early dismissal day for the students so they were a bit more off task than usual but that was to be expected due to the interruption in daily schedule. However, the para that helps in the classroom was also absent, so it was up to me to conduct her writing group assignment for the day.…

During my early childhood, I was exuberant to attend Bert H Fulton Elementary School. I wanted to meet new friends and teachers and make learning an endless opportunity. On my first day of school, I saw teachers greeting me and other kids, I saw enormous gymnasiums and libraries, and I envisioned my growth and development in this school. However, one of my teachers, Ms. Chobot, would be my biggest obstacle towards growth, success, and happiness. Ms. Chobot was my English remediation teacher during my five years in elementary school.…

It seemed that the community, though small, was very supportive of their school system. Mr. Demchok’s 5th Grade Mr. Demchok, a 5th grade teacher, mainly taught Social Studies and Math, while his partner teacher taught the remaining subjects. Mr. Demchok’s classroom was simple; there was not much for decorations or student’s artwork on the walls. The student’s desks were arranged in groups of three or four and formed a square that was filled in. Mr. Demchok’s room was equipped with technology such as, SMART boards, computers, and a few iPads, that were all put to good use.…

My field observations took place at Renaissance Charter School at Central Palm. I honestly had a wonderful experience and I really enjoyed my time there. I was assigned to Ms. Pickholtz’s 1st grade class. When I first arrived to the charter school I was extremely nervous and a little anxious because just the thought of actually helping a teacher run a class seemed scary to me because I felt like I would do a horrible job at it. However, I was welcomed by both the teacher and the class…

My TE-100 class went to Barr Middle School in Grand Island, Nebraska and Northeast Elementary in Kearney, Nebraska. Due to a conflict I was unable to attend the Barr Middle School visit and went to Walnut Middle School in Grand Island, Nebraska instead. At Walnut Middle School, I observed Mrs. Coble, the seventh grad math teacher. At Northeast, I observed Mrs. Tobey, a fourth grade teacher. After observing both schools I came to the conclusion that the two schools are very different from one another.…

The setting of my 2nd focus child was a Little Bucs in the preschool room (Inventors) in the classroom, but we did visit the ETSU library during my first observation. They are 48 months-60 months. I observed a 48 month old, male. I will refer to the student I observed as "P." I observed from 10:00-11:30 both sessions. The classroom was reasonably big, but the floor was opened with toys and an upstairs area where the students can go and hang up there.…

A full-day in a kindergarten classroom includes breakfast, a morning and afternoon snack, and lunch for each student. The teachers provided the students with a variety of engaging learning experiences and hands-on materials. Those materials included books, writing materials, math-related games and manipulatives, art materials, props for dramatic play, and blocks. Students use computers within the class. It was described to me that the materials are chosen for how well they support the overall curriculum and goals they have for the students.…

I can empathize with teachers who say that the observation and evaluation process does not seem reciprocal in nature. Most of my follow-up evaluations have either been waived or conducted in five minutes or less in which the principal hits upon the highlights of my observation. Very few teaching lessons have been learned through these interactions. In her article though, Shelly Arneson includes sound practices that can be implemented to alleviate many of the concerns of the evaluation process. Her basic premise is to shift the dialogue from inspection-based conversation to a reflection-based conversation.…

Even though there were two students with learning disabilities, she was able to make a lesson that worked for everyone in the room. This is something that I plan to do in my classroom. There was one thing that I would change about this lesson, and that would be to put each question on the board while they are answering it. There were many times that students had to ask Mrs. Hibma what the question was again because they forgot. By having the question on the interactive board, it would allow the student to be able to read the question if they had forgotten it.…
