An ELL student is described as a linguistically and culturally diverse student who is learning the English language in addition to his or her native language. In my current fieldwork experience and to the best of my knowledge, there are no ELLs students attending any of the classes that I currently observe. From what I’ve observed, the classes I attend are not highly diversified by ELL’s, those students who are, seem to speak English fluently with no noticeable difficulty. Therefore, I am unable to give any descriptions on learning accommodations as of now on ELL’s. However, there were many lessons that did observe that accommodated different learning styles, that would also help ELL students if they were present in the classroom, such as, visual, auditory and tactile learning accommodations.…

According to Boyles (2004), “teachers talk with students to monitor their progress as well as to set goals and help them solve problems” (p.75). Teachers should conduct writing conferences in order to assess and evaluate the writing progress of their students. The purpose of writing conferences is finding the strengths and weaknesses of their writing to improve and develop the skills the student already has. Depending on the students writing the teacher facilitates interventions to improve the students writing skills. Teachers should frequently plan writing conferences to check-in on their students and the progress they have made.…

In each chapter exercises, the authors illustrate techniques for students to write with the readers in mind. The objective of these summaries will focus on three lessons: actions, characters, and concisions that will improve on students writing style and sentence structure (Moskey and Williams 28). Vague writing weakens a student’s creative expression. Therefore, students must choose their subject and action verb precisely for readers to know their main point of view for each character (29). Students can eliminate redundancy by choosing inclusive words to convey the information concisely in their stories (132,…

With the teacher’s help, students work as a group to develop their own story. Accuracy at this stage is not as important as fluency. Positive feedback and encouragement, however, are extremely important, as students need to feel good about themselves. Students are encouraged to write in their journals on a daily basis. It is also important to note that teachers do not need to mark and correct everything the students write.…

My practicum student only attended two days of school this week. I was able to observe him both days in the general education classroom, and was impressed with how he sat and looked at the teacher during the fifteen-minute lesson. Following instruction the students completed a 30-minute work task triggering the problem behavior where Shyne would leave the work area or hide under a desk. The assigned tasks involved writing skills above his ability level, and at the end of both days he only wrote his name on the assignments. The consequence following the behavior, was removing the task because it was the end of the school day.…
