I attended the first hour of a three hour class of Professor Sandra Rutherford from 6:00-7:00 of GEOS 103, Oceans and Atmosphere class. This class began with a student presentation about the garbage patch that is floating in the Pacific Ocean. The two students dressed up with garbage bags to illustrate the types of materials that end up in the garbage patch. Some of the highlights of the talk included the size of the patch about twice the size of Texas and the depth and damage done to the ocean floor and coral reefs. The assignment had a clear outline and inspiring students to dress up for a talk speaks well to inspiration that Professor Rutherford providers.
