Davis and the other 6th grade teachers run a seven-day block for English Language Arts. This will allow me to observe lessons one week and assessments the following week. I am personally used to running a five-day block; I feel the seven-day block has both benefits and disadvantages. One benefit would be it allows students more time to grasp a concept. Another benefit would be having time to catch up if a student is absent. And last, teachers would be given more time to be flexible with slowing down or speeding up the pace of the lesson. The only disadvantage I could think of is the students having the weekend before an assessment, I wonder if students forget the content before being assessed. The students’ ELA assessments consist of their weekly story, DOL and vocabulary. I noticed that before each new assessment was passed out the students were not given an opportunity to get up and move. After the first assessment, students took out their book to read. After the second assessment students needed more prompts to stay busy. The third assessment was given and at the end the students’ behavior started to reflect their boredom. I feel the students would have benefited from being able to get up and move between each
