I observed Miss. Hooker’s first grade classroom in Towner ND. Miss hooker starts the students off with morning work as soon as they get into the room. This morning work is a worksheet that covers all subject areas, it relates to what the students are going to be working on throughout the day. Miss. Hooker said it has been a great tool to get the students’ minds thinking. Another thing I thought was interesting about Miss. Hooker’s class was the way she keeps the students active. She has a website that is a mini Zumba for her students. Whenever they are starting to get a little rowdy, she plays a three minute Zumba video that the students dance too, and then returns to lecture. The students react in a very positive way, after some of their energy is used up they are much more capable of sitting still and listening to the lesson.
She is a big believer in movement and keeping the kids entertained. During spelling lessons, she would see that her students were board of just writing the words repeatedly and often would start day dreaming. She introduced the students to body spelling, they go through all of their words and figure out where they go on the writing road. If it the letter goes above the middle line, the student will “reach for the sky”. If

Hooker uses Zones of Regulation in her classroom. She stresses to the students that trust is a big thing. If the students cannot be trusted to behave like first graders, then she cannot trust them in other areas such as recess. With her Zones of Regulation, Miss. Hooker uses a fix it station. After several warnings students are asked to go to the fix it station, and once she is done instructing her other students, she will go to the fix it station and have a conversation about the student’s behavior and how they can fix it as a team. A big thing I realized while observing was that Miss. Hooker is a big team player, she never makes a problem just the student’s problem, but a problem they share and can fix

Doing clinical observations are very important because it gives a change to see student and teacher interactions first hand and get to see how well a student is responding. During my observations at Biddeford Intermediate School, I got the change to shadow an Ed. Teach in a life skills room. This was a great opportunity for me because it was a chance to see another kind of intervention done in the special education department. I have done many observations with an occupational therapist, and they have always been in lighting and very educational, but to visit a life skills room gave me more perspective on the special education department as a whole.…

Classroom Setting One of the first things I noticed when walking into Mrs. Curl’s classroom was how pleasant a place it was. Not only was it clean, neat, organized, and colorful, but it also possessed a fun, child-friendly element that made it look like a place any kid would enjoy spending long periods of time in. Mrs. Curl would play music softly in the background at the beginning of her class when the children were doing educational busy-word to keep them occupied until everyone arrived and she was ready to begin the lessons. This improved the atmosphere tremendously as the music was, at times, soothing and at other times fun, kid-friendly tunes that got the kids excited and happy.…

Admittedly, my experiences in Mrs. Lanza’s classroom and William F. Halloran School impacted me both as a future educator and as a person. Observing both of Mrs. Lanza’s classes, I learned a great deal about how important it is to both listen to students and adapt to their educational needs. As seen in my daily log entries, Mrs. Lanza was extremely flexible when it came to class activities. In fact, Mrs. Lanza would alter the class schedule depending on how students were reacting. For example, she would revisit challenging materials, take a break from activities that were causing frustration, and even plan an easy class period in response to heightened student excitement.…

If I were able to pick the line for Spring 2016 I would pick Potential Candidates that would help keep this chapter alive and better the chapter as well. She hasn't been and interest long, but she knows a lot about the chapter and comes up with good suggestions when it comes to fundraising. about the.…

I conducted a running record on C.J. a student in my practicum class, he read the book, Aliens in underpants, to me. This student scored In the instructional range with a ninety two percent. This book had a little over one hundred words and out of these words he made ten errors and four self-corrections. I noticed that the student was a little slower of a reader compared to other students in the class. Most of the errors he made were that he failed to use meaning and structure.…

My observation was done on a Pre-K class room at a local Kinder Care Learning Center around 4:30pm in the afternoon. During this time the teachers are preparing the children to leave for the day. The class room was set up to show that the kids were preparing for regular school and not just spending their entire day napping and singing songs. The room had about 6 windows that allowed a lot of natural light, there were 2 square tables with at least 6 little chairs at each table, and a small round blue table. The room was filled with book shelves, cabinets with pictures of the children on the cabinet doors; each child had a cubby with their name and a picture of them displayed on the front of it.…

In the past month, I have been traveling to Williams Middle School in Florence, South Carolina to observe a dance educator and Coker alumni, Ashley Lesage. After the opportunity of observing twice, there were a few things I agreed with and did not agree with as far as the students and teaching methods. September 15, 2016 was my first time observing in Ms. Lesage’s classroom. One of the first things I noticed amongst the students were their clothing attire. In a dance studio, usually an observer would see leotards, tights, leggings, t-shirt, and a tanktop.…

I can empathize with teachers who say that the observation and evaluation process does not seem reciprocal in nature. Most of my follow-up evaluations have either been waived or conducted in five minutes or less in which the principal hits upon the highlights of my observation. Very few teaching lessons have been learned through these interactions. In her article though, Shelly Arneson includes sound practices that can be implemented to alleviate many of the concerns of the evaluation process. Her basic premise is to shift the dialogue from inspection-based conversation to a reflection-based conversation.…
