For the field observation, I had the opportunity to observe a classroom at Friends of Crown Heights Educational Center. Friend of Crown Heights is a Universal Pre-kindergarten program. This program prepares four-year olds with language, literacy, cognitive, physical and social skill needed to excel in Kindergarten. The teachers and staff were welcoming and helpful. The students were friendly and filled with energy. The director assigned me to a classroom where there were three teachers and about fifteen kids. The girls outnumbered the boys by two. The majority of the students are African-American and Latinos. Mostly all students spoke both English and Spanish. On my first day of field observation I was nervous. I didn’t know what to expect. I asked myself what is it that I want to learn from this experience. My starting goal was to observe the teacher and observe how well she managed the classroom. Nonetheless, I learned something different from that, my interest with working with small children sparked. I learned that the most important element to a classroom are the children. In addition, I learned what it means to become a great teacher, is not only about teaching is about focusing on your child’s …show more content…

I learned to make my room mine, and to be creative even if that means that my room stands out from the others. I learned to be creative when books and lectures don’t get the point across. I just loved her use of music and dance to teach math, which will be something I use in my own classroom. I think the most important thing that I learned to do would be to bring love in, no matter how hard a day may be for me, it may be two times as hard for the children as well. Showing those kids love in the classroom may be the only time they get it, everyone deserves a safe place.…

The third field observation took place on agricultural strawberry and lettuce fields located in the outside areas of Salinas and Spreckels California. Under the concept of phenomenology, the purpose of the study is to observe and look at the experiences and challenges that many Latino field workers face when dedicating their time and effort in maintaining the production of strawberries and lettuce. For many years, the Salinas agricultural fields have been raised by motivated and hardworking individuals who have dedicated their time and effort growing and taking care of the crops. The area of Salinas is well known for its strawberry, lettuce, broccoli, artichoke, and cauliflower fields that one is able to see when driving through the roads.…

Both of the teachers had strategies on how they arranged the seating chart. Mrs. Gordon’s class was in a portable so she didn’t have lots of space to use. In both classrooms, the bulletin boards had the students work displayed.…

The configuration of grade levels and amount of time spent within the school building within the United States varies across traditional and non-traditional school environments. McEntire (2002) examined how traditionally schools in America a separated by levels k-6, 6-8, and 9-12. However, there are districts that configure grades k-12 or even by single grade levels. General Observation: This week marked my third week in Mrs. C’s 4th grade classroom at St. Rose. During their scheduled reading time, I taught my first observed lesson of three required for my second field placement. This was not my first time teaching a lesson in Mrs. C’s class, as I have been afforded the opportunity each time I am in the classroom to lead a lesson in some way. Sequencing of events was the target skill I pulled from the story, The Right Dog for the Job. The students were familiar with the story.…

In my own field research (see appendix A), I observed that most of my peers, myself included are multitaskers. If you walk into any student space; the cafes, the library, in the common and even walking up and down the streets, it isn’t uncommon to see most students my age doing many tasks at a time. We are walking and checking our phones, posting pictures, sending messages and checking our email. If you take a look at our computer screens, we will probably have multiple tabs open because we aren’t done looking at one site when we quickly hop on the next because something caught our attention. In my first field observation, I noted that nearly everyone I observed was doing at least two or more activities simultaneously.…

Students’ education has changed over the years and the reason for it is technology. For hundreds of years teachers have used books, paper, and pencils to teach their students, but for the last few years technology has become part of everyone’s life in one way or another. Students and teachers are getting their technology through the classroom and it has impacted student learning. Technology has positively impacted student learning because they have more motivation, self-esteem, are completing complex tasks and help others more, while it has the negative impact of poor work and shorter attention span to tasks. One way is that technology has increased students’ motivation to learn and their self-esteem in what they learned.…

ABSS was nothing like I had imagined. I thought that it would be a school building similar to the ones here in the United States but it was not. The first thing I notice was that the school is location in a university campus. The second things that caught my attention was that although the school building is composed of only classrooms, there is still strict security around the area. The whole school is made up of at least seven small sections.…
