Observation Of Dominican Republican Beach

Improved Essays
The first day when this class start, was the day that I came back from Dominican Republican. While I was there I observed the beach very carefully. I noticed allot of thing that I usually never pay attention to, when you’re at the beach on a regular day. Usually you we just look at the sand to see if there is any rocks or and we look at the water (and its colour). But this time while looking at both of these things I realized that when you pick the small gains of sand in your hand the sand is more of a white colour (mostly but not the only colour) then tan as well as it had different shades of colour of white. The sand grains were finer than gravel but rougher than slit, when we rub whole bunch of it in our hands and feet if felt like sugar. …show more content…
Changing the colour to a dark sand and it was also hard to split into finer grains like when it was dry. As we know when sand is wet it sticks together better, resulting in less slippage. Also at this beach I saw different shaped and sizes of shells pebbles and rocks. The biggest shell I saw was a about the size of my hand the rocks were there size of tiny sand grains to big as about 3 feet. I also notice the water contains sediments (other than sand). It had tiny different coloured pebble like tan, grey, white, cream, it also had seaweed in it. I think this was all there due to the tides that were hitting the shoreline. Lastly there were man-made object that I observed here made with the natural materials as well like a dock and huts made with wood, as well as a small one foot rock wall made with rocks and shells (as shown in the

Whilst the maximum wind speed occurs on the beach side of the dune, at approximately 4.35 m/s towards the beach. Hence, the results for this be a vague inverse resemblance of the topography profile in figure…

The History into the creation of the location of the Sand Creek Massacre or battle into a national historical site at the beginning of this century was as complicated a situation as the actual Sand Creek Massacre in 1864. The sociopolitical dramatic history that surrounded the creation of Sand Creek Colorado caused old rivalries and historical conflicts to arise between the native residents of the Native American Reservations and the United States Government. The Book A Misplaced Massacre: Struggling over the Memory of Sand Creek by Ari Kelman goes into the historical controversy that was created in creating the historical site into a National Park. In the first section of the book the story dwells on the problems of the location of the Sand…

Sand dune erosion is occurring on the Cronulla coastline due to the coupling of human and natural impacts and is gradually resulting in the beach being less able to be protect itself from natural implications. The constant sand dune erosion is creating a steeper slope this is allowing waves and winds to rapidly remove sand from the dunes. The sand dune erosion is destroying habitats from plants and animals, this is substantially decreasing the biodiversity on the coastal environment. Sand dune erosion is resulting in loose sand to be blown from the dunes because the vegetation has been removed, this is impacting the coastal environment as it is removing all vegetation causing a significant reduction in the biodiversity which is also disrupting the natural processes for the coastal ecosystem. As the sand dunes are eroding since the waves and winds are removing the sand from the shore, the loss of sand results in the beach becoming narrower and closer to the residents.…

Other natural features sighted were beaches and sand dunes, as seen in the field work booklet on pages 12 and 13. The sand dune was shaped like a dome and consisted mainly of sand and rock particles and was formed from the process of deposition, which is when constructive waves carry sand and rock particles ashore. The Spit also contains a number of built features to help maintain and conserve the environment such as the seawall and jetty which are considered as hard engineering and sand dune which is soft engineering. The jetty, also known as the Sand Bypass System was implemented to help support jet pumps transport northerly drifting sand trapped by the Southern Seaway Wall.…

Longshore Drift: Longshore Drift is the transportation of sand and pebbles along the coast. The direction the wind usually flows from, also known as the prevailing wind, causes ways to approach the cost at an angle. The sand and pebbles are then carried by swash at the same angle, (usually 45 angle). swash is the white foamy water that rushes up the coast, because of the pull of gravity and friction, the water flows back towards the sea.…

I was struck by how Lorde describes the spirituality of the erotic. Lorde makes sure to explain that the erotic is spiritual in a different way than what is deemed traditionally spiritual. While discussing the spirituality of the erotic, Lorde relates the knowledge of her “capacity for feeling” that comes from the recognition of the erotic, and the satisfaction she derives from that knowledge (190). She also describes the process of realizing that that satisfaction “does not have to be called marriage, nor god, nor an afterlife” (190). The erotic is spiritual in a way that transcends ideas of god and marriage, as both those ideas have been informed, if not created, by a patriarchal society that endeavors to oppress and disenfranchise women, and women of color especially.…

While the dunes had more fine grain size than the swash both were the highest percentage. This shows that from a basic point of view that both areas have similar grains. But when you look at both microscopically you can tell that when compared they’re not even close to being similar. While they are both the same size the dunes sand has endured more erosion due to their well sorted and fine sized size this can be due to the amount of time they have been transported and deposited due the waves. While the swash zone has and is currently enduring the waves as well what makes it so different is that the grains in the zone have not has as much time with wear as the dunes have making the grains coarse but another factor is the constant wash up of Biogenous minerals like shells making the swash zone poorly…
