1.) Observation: MS classroom: The teacher is instructing band students, made up mostly of 8th grade students, with a few advanced 7th graders mixed in. His passion for music is quite clear in his instruction. Before the students arrive in class he tells me that he has had some issues with students goofing off and talking out of turn lately. He confides in me that it does not come easy for him, but sometimes you have to “bring the hammer down.” As students walked into class they were met at the door and the teacher made it clear that they were there to work and not play. Throughout the class he suddenly corrected students without taking time away from instruction. Discipline is one of the things that I find most intimidating about teaching,

The rules and consequences are all clearly outlined around the room. I noticed her classroom decor consist almost entirely of instructional materials. As we learned from our discussion about classroom set up and decor this can benefit the students as well as the teacher. She was going to visit the Ron Clark Academy the next day, and was very excited for the opportunity. I would have expected that she might be annoyed, or burden by having to leave her classroom to attend two full days of workshops, but she was just the opposite. She explained that she had always heard amazing things about the academy from fellow educators and had been requesting to go for some time. The wisdom that the Ron Clark Academy tries to impart on teachers is to 1.) Build bonds with your students 2.) Teachers set the tone of their classroom 3.) To have high expectations for your students. I will say that this teacher definitely set the tone for her classroom with her disposition. Knowing her outside of the classroom she is a very easy going, silly person. However, her classroom was all business. It was by far the quietest classroom I observed and the students seemed focused from beginning to end. I got the sense that she would not have accepted any
