When I first walk into Pine Meadow Elementary School at 8:30, Mr. Percuoco greets me with a “good morning” and the 21 6 to 7 year old children say “hi”. Mr. Percuoco is the only teacher in the room throughout the morning. The classroom is full of posters on the walls that have written rules, numbers, digraphs, and colors on them to help the children remember. Also on the wall, are jobs kids are assigned to. Mr. Percuoco has a paper ladder that has steps that leads to being above the zone.…

Childcare Director Interview (My answers for these were taken from both past conversations I have had with the director as well as my cooperating teacher since the director was gone recently due to a family issue out of state. I saw here very briefly on my last day for the first time in a while and because she was in the middle of something I only got to thank her for letting me be there this semester before I left. So, I am focusing mostly on the program’s newly expanding private school named Legacy Christian Academy which the kindergarten class I was with falls under because that’s where I was able to get most of my information.)…
In 1939 the Elizabeth fry association of British Colombia was taken in place, the purpose of this organization was to assist and create programs for the “female offenders” and help them develop skills when transitioning back into society, (Stewart, pg.1) Like Elizabeth it would start by visiting the prison and creating changes and opportunity for these women. The foundation originally was to create programs but it became more than just a program based prison. In the 1960s women were granted care after leaving the prison, and were provided with community living homes. The women also had access to emergency revising homes in Vancouver and Burnaby, counseling services for shoplifters, court work services for women and men, and specialized treatments in family therapy and life skills. (Stewart.…
Big Horn Elementary Throughout the semester, I spent my time observing the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades, at Big Horn Elementary, in Big Horn, Wyoming. Big Horn, a small town with a population of 490 residents, is located at the base of the Big Horn Mountains. The socioeconomic status leans towards middle to upper working class and the common ethnicity was Caucasian. However, there were other ethnicities such as, Latino, Asian, and African American students in the elementary school.…
While observing in Beth Johnston’s First Grade classroom at Eugene Field Elementary School, I have noticed some effective and ineffective classroom management practices that she uses while I have been in the classroom. One effective classroom management technique that I have observed is that Mrs. Johnston puts her student’s desks into groups of three or four. This is an effective technique because she puts her strong students with her not as strong students, which can help with the students who might need a little help staying on track with the lesson that they are supposed to get done. Also, Mrs. Johnston has changed the groups a couple of times since I have been observing in the classroom. This I believe is effective because the students…
October 6, 2016 was my fourth day visiting Miami Elementary School. Over the past couple of visits I have learned many new things as I observe the class and their activities. I have learned that by using music and colors when teaching, kindergarteners tend to learn better. I have learned that by rewarding your students when they do something good, makes the students want to strive to do the right thing more often. I have also learned that kindergarteners have a very short attention span, meaning they need to be constantly busy with new activities or they will lose their concentration.…
Tort Liability Tort Liability is the legal obligation to a victim who has been wronged by neglect. There are several issues of tort liability that come up for a principal. In discussing this with Mrs. Williams, she brought up several instances when tort liability is an issue for her. Constant vigilance in her decision making about what the school’s liability would be if she said yes to a certain request.…

When I walked into the preschool classroom, I noticed it was very large and very spacious which allowed enough space for each child. Natural light, provided there was no glare in the room, was able to help students learn more effectively. Upon entering the class, I quickly noticed all the children curiously turn to look who I was while they were having large group time for half an hour. During that time, they sang songs, had calendar time and the teacher did an overview of the day. I was very impressed at how cooperative they were for her.…
Video 1 In the first math video, Pritti Poole (a 2nd-year math instructor) gives a math lesson on 2D and 3D shapes where she asks students to think about, recognize and identify. During her lesson, she utilizes a form of whole brain teaching, where she tells the students to discuss 2D and 3D shapes with their peers. To enhance her instruction, she utilizes technology tools to engage students. She makes use of an interactive smart board, which displays activities for the students to see as she teaches the lesson.…
Before taking this course and being out in the field for 20 hours, special education was not my ideal teaching job. Special education was always intimidating to me because there is so much important information that is needed. IEP’s, parents, and goal setting are just a few to name that intimidated me until now. After getting to experience being in a special education room with the students and asking Nicole Degroot questions about these topics, I now I feel that special education may be the positon for me. From the first day of my observation hours, Mrs. Degroot made me feel completely welcome and comfortable, which made the experience that much better.…
The kids were sitting down having a snack, while others kids were being picked up. I asked the teachers if they were able to leave after all the children were done and they said they were there till 4pm. The teachers are not allowed to clean and sanitize the classroom until all of the children have left. Then they had to stay and do paper work. I didn’t realize how much work being a Pre-School teacher was.…
In all honesty, I did not have expectations going into the practicum. I wanted to take a risk and take subjects that I had never encountered in high school and sports studies was one of them. I mostly wondered what each class was going to be and how we were going to learn about sports through a different lenses such as english and sociology. Therefore, my expectations were exceeded because the practicum allowed all my brain power to be focused in one subject (sport), yet we dove into in numerous different subtopics in sports. For example, in Professor Colas’ class, we learned about sports through a week long lens each week, eventually reaching thirteen ways we can look at sports.…
