Observation Essay On Preschool

The Early Education Center For my observation, I visited The Early Education Center, Seagull School. The preschool classroom that I visited consisted of three teachers and thirty children, ages three and four years old. The type of program at The Early Education Center is what I call a “traditional” preschool.
When I walked into the preschool classroom, I noticed it was very large and very spacious which allowed enough space for each child. Natural light, provided there was no glare in the room, was able to help students learn more effectively. Upon entering the class, I quickly noticed all the children curiously turn to look who I was while they were having large group time for half an hour. During that time, they sang songs, had calendar time and the teacher did an overview of the day. I was very impressed at how cooperative they were for her. They were all very attentive. During my visit, I observed many different interactions took place between

The outside was very huge as well. Unfortunately, I was only able to see part of the outside. When looking outside I referred to Esbensen’s 7 play zones. Looking to the right of me, I saw the Projective/ Fantasy Zone, children pouring sand on to themselves and not worrying about getting dirty. They were building sandcastles and imagining themselves as kings and queens. In front of me, I saw the Physical Zone, children climbing on tree stumps and mounds. Some children were running around chasing each other and some girls were hula hooping. Finally, to the left of me I saw the Social/ Dramatic Zone. There was a small playhouse and the children were pretending to run a store. Two children were fighting over who was going to be the cashier until the teacher reasoned with them. They agreed that they will take turns. After an hour passed, the leader of the class rang the little bell she had. The students were alert and ready to start cleaning up and line

Learning center is a special component that allows children to participate in play and learning activities. When kids play in the learning centers, they make choices, expand their oral language, develop confidence and social skills working together, and enhance their creative abilities. Toddlers are sensory learners who observe and participate in their learning. Toddlers need space to move and materials to manipulate. The classroom, where they spend a large amount of time should reflect toddlers’ developmental aspects, and can have huge influence on their development and behavior.…

The other preschool classroom I observed was the Desert Vista High School Early Learning Center. The indoor environment of their classroom is smaller than my dream classroom but there is many different places for the children and students to play with toys, games and sing silly songs. Their indoor environment is very energetic because of the places and things that the children can play and do in the classroom with their classmates and teachers which is important because they want the children to have fun and feel safe. The outside environment is very cool because the children are able to do what they want and play and run off some energy but they are also able to play some pretty cool games with other children. There daily schedule is very simple because…

Upon watching the preschool classroom YouTube videos provided, my attention was immediately drawn to the bright and positive appearance of the classroom. Although the video only shows a small fraction of the classroom, this being the rooms “circle time center”, it essentially embodies the teacher’s positivity, engagement and care for the children’s education, as well as leading as a constructive demonstration of how the rest of the classroom must look. With no blank spaces on the wall, this classroom really minimizes a large space by embellishing it with different design elements of texture, color, and visuals. From the video you can see the teacher has a monthly calendar, a section on the chalkboard for the day’s objectives, a section for…

In the Pre-K classroom that I observed it consisted of several different centers for the children to participate in, such as: block area, dramatic play, art, library, sand/water table, music/movement, sensory area, finger painting, play dough, and the students got the opportunity to make their own snacks. Not only did the students get to participate in centers, they had the opportunity each day to go outside and play on the playground as well as having an interactive lecture every morning at circle time and when the students sat down at their tables to do their daily worksheet. I believe that the Pre-K class I observed was a mix between traditional teaching as well as constructivism, creating a balance between the two. In the morning during circle time, the teacher would “lecture” the students with the letter of the day, go over the date, months, days of the week, shapes, and the numbers up to the date it currently was.…

I believe that early childhood education is an essential for school readiness. Early childhood education plays an important role in children’s development in cognitive and social skills. At the age of three years old the children begin to develop more rapidly. Children progress in their physical, social, intellectual, and emotional. According to The Urban Child Institute, studies have shown that “from the ages of 0 to 3, a baby’s brain grows to 80% of its adult size and is twice as active as adults”.…
