Sense Observation

Improved Essays
It doesn’t matter where you are, you will always be observing a scene, whether you realize it or not. When going to the location I chose, it was odd trying to think about everything I needed to observe. Usually these observations are things I don’t pay attention to, but I do them anyway. As human beings, we observe with our senses. Our senses include sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. These senses aren’t always on our mind when we go to different places, unless of course one of them stands out. When paying attention to these senses at the U.S Cellular store, there were a few that caught my attention. Friday after school was over my boyfriend and I decided to go to Spencer, Iowa to the U.S Cellular store. My phone hasn’t been working for …show more content…
I noticed that the woman that the employee was talking to was quite angry with him. I’m assuming that is why he hurried to speak with her. I also noticed there was another employee who was walking around just seeing what people needed quick, but he didn’t come ask us. This made us a little more irritated considering we were cut off the first time. I happened to look over into the corner of the room and see a little child playing with one of the cell phones there. The child kept dropping it and it made me wonder where his parents were. I actually looked around to see if I could guess who his parents were based on if anyone was looking for him. Nobody was looking. When the employee was done talking with the angry woman, the woman grabbed the little boy and left. No wonder she wasn’t looking for him, she was too busy yelling at the employee in the store. Anyways, that meant the employee was ready to talk to …show more content…
We just discussed what was going on with my phone and what they could do to fix it. On my way out of the store I heard him tell us to have a good night and that he was very sorry for any inconvenience he may have caused. We just smiled and waved as we went out the door, which led to a food court because the store is located in the Southpark Mall. Walking out into the food court definitely brought out my sense of smell. All I could smell were tacos, which I don’t think there was even a taco place around. Smelling tacos gave me the reaction of wanting Taco Bell very badly, so on our way home we stopped and grabbed some. While eating the Taco Bell it made me realize that I didn’t think about the sense of taste while I was at U.S Cellular. I ended up laughing at myself because taste would not have been necessary anyway. I ended up focusing on the taste of my delicious tacos

We decided to stop for food as we all received a text stating dinner would be provided and was all tried to shy away from tasting their “Jewish” food. As we entered Chick- Fila we knew we were no longer in our neighborhood. While some within our group had no sense of fear from being in a place with so many white people, others of us became confused when we were the only people in there that looked like us. I said, you know it’s nice that my daughter has options to eat here. And asked him if there are a lot others who order the pizza we did. In return he barely says one word and acts as if he knows nothing about eating gluten free and really what gluten even was. I tried to explain the allergy and his expression was just like ‘oh’. I could tell I wasn’t getting anywhere so decided to just sit down and wait for the…

Even more shocking was the fact that I found out the man was mistreating the child in the store before he brought the situation outside. However he was the most concerned with the group disbanding and paranoid about our reason for choosing to watch the group. For example, In one of the meetings two moms in the group without babysitters brought their two toddlers. The boy and the girl were running up and down the aisle, crying, fighting and yelling.…

As I continued throughout the mall, I entered another store and this time instead of signing to the cashier, I kept requesting him to speak louder. I tried to pretend that I was unable to hear him asking questions. The cashier got extremely frustrated and started to lose all positive customer service by being rude and insensitive. I was so annoyed by his behavior and although I was just doing a project, I learned that some people have to deal with obnoxious, uneducated, individuals every day that may use hurtful and harmful excuses to bring another individual…

I had managed to avoid sushi for 21 years, but now I had to face it head-on. I could not let my colleague Maria (whom I was often competing with for promotions), my manager, Adam (who I admired) and the rest of the team see me punk out on eating sushi. When we got to the restaurant, I faked as if I was really familiar with Sushi, as we ordered rolls to share. Luckily, my love for Chinese food had equipped me with decent enough chopstick stills to keep up my charade, at first. Still beset with fear I mocked Maria as she poured her soy sauce into the little dish and then proceeded to place pieces of ginger into it.…
