Observation Essay On Biomechanics

For my Practical Biomechanics Experience Observation I chose to volunteer at Denton Sports: Physical Therapy Center. Overall, the experience was very good. Not only did they let me observe, but they also let me be able to get up close and personal with the patients and I got a chance to talk to them and assist them with some of the treatments and exercises they were doing. For the most part I was able to truly watch Biomechanics in its full form and see how it works in everyday life. As I was volunteering at the clinic, there were multiple patients that I got to observe and assist during their treatments. One patient had cerebral palsy and the other patient was experiencing some bad shoulder pain for over a month a now. Now we know that cerebral palsy is a condition marked by impaired muscle coordination (spastic paralysis) and/or other disabilities, typically caused by damage to the brain before or at birth. So during her sessions it was mostly a bunch of stretching with the muscles. Most of the muscles on her right side were shortening so most of the routines they were doing was massaging out the muscles all over her body this lasted for about thirty minutes and afterwards she ended on the treadmill. The other patient was an older guy who was experiencing some severe left shoulder pain. The actual physical therapist actually assisted him in therapy. He did series a deep stretches on the left side for about fifteen minutes and afterwards they gave him a stick for him to place hold over his head and he did a series of stretches with the stick from extending it over his head, stretching it across his body and multiple others. He later with to a wall that they call the wall grid. It looks similar to target board for archers and you take a towel and slide your arm in circular position across the. It was very interesting to watch because you think it would be easy but as he got higher the more strain and pressure he felt on the hurt arm but you can also see why the therapist had him do that to try and increase the range
