The class that I observed was Applied Human Anatomy and Physiology taught by Nikki Walker at Mercersburg Academy, in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. This course is built around the students’ previous knowledge from Biology and allows them to delve deeper into the systems of the human body. Traditionally, students in this course use the information gained to recognize, evaluate and treat common wilderness injuries. Upon completion of this course, students will be certified in CPR and first aid through the American Red Cross and the opportunity to attempt certification through Stonehearth Open Leadership Opportunities (SOLO). Preference for admittance into this course is given to seniors, but the course is open to 10th and 11th graders as well.

This particular class is one of the largest at the school having 15 students with an additional two students from the Gauss Gymnasium in Worms, Germany joining the class for two weeks as part of the schools yearly exchange. Not including those two exchange students, there are 9 students from the United States, 3 students from Germany, 1 student from the Ukraine, 1 student from Brazil, and 1 student

Walker in the classroom as I have already seen her work in the dorms and on the athletic fields. She is a teacher who I greatly admire, not only for her endless energy, but also for her ability to handle any situation that pops up with ease. In particular, I was interested in observing domain 2 from Charlotte Danielson’s Enhancing Professional Practice (2007). More specifically, 2c (Managing Classroom Procedures), 2d (Managing Student Behavior), and 2e (Organizing Physical Space) (Danielson, 2007). It was my hope that Mrs. Walker could provide strong examples of how to touch on each of the above-mentioned elements while discussing the topics of nerves and muscular

For example, throughout the video, the educator positioned herself within the classroom so that every student was in eyesight. Even whilst working with small groups of students during guided reading, the educator would gaze beyond the group to monitor other students. This is an essential strategy that I can employ in my own teaching practice. For instance, it’s necessary to let my students understand that I’m aware of and care about what’s going on in the classroom, especially if I aspire to increase their ability to stay on-task.…

Since moving to Bettendorf for my High School years I have learned more than I could imagine and for that, I will be grateful for forever. I have learned more about myself, more in school, and most importantly I have learned from my mistakes including how to fix them to prevent myself from ever making them again. Everyone makes mistakes and may possibly get in trouble for these. I will never forget Bettendorf High School nor February 28th, 2018. February 28th was a day that has changed how I think about my best friends, and also made think about everyone a lot more than I did before.…

My high school experience has allowed me to be a part of the band, choir, theatre, and Spanish programs. These experiences have all shown me unique aspects of my life and the lives of those around me. Because I was homeschooled until ninth grade, I never got a real chance to be a part of the community like I did when I became a freshman. Throughout my high school career, I have learned many things like music, Spanish, and how to treat other people. At Vicksburg High School, all three of these things go hand in hand.…

There is no substitute for activities in a classroom that require your hands. (Cleaver). Ideas like this show just how important these activities are, especially for a student’s cognitive learning. A classroom must be focused on interactive activities rather than having an over reliance on testing. The best way students get the most out of what they are being taught is by actually doing what they learn and applying it accordingly.…

Having the opportunity to work in the classroom through practicum experiences has helped me understand how I can use my gifts and passions to benefit students. While observing during my practicum, I had the opportunity to help individual students particularly. While helping these students one-on-one, or in small groups, I developed a deeper understanding of how I interact with students. For example, as the semester progressed, I could tell the students built a stronger trust in me. This speaks to how I was able to help my students.…

Along with these supports, I was extremely impressed by the way Mrs. Flinn handled classroom management. Even though I observed during a very exciting week, she had great control over her students.…
