Being used to thick chalky tasting covers on those dark red apples, it was pleasantly delightful to experience the thin lightly sweet cover of this Fuji apple. The flesh was amazingly sweet and juicy. I found myself slurping up the juices that were gushing through every bite. Sticky sugar fingers were the result of using my hands as napkins to whip up the juice that squirted from my mouth. I became distracted and a bit obsessed with deliciousness of the fruit. Placing faith into my intuition, I became certain that the rest of the apples in my bunch would be just as sweet. Hesitantly, I pulled what was left of the apple away from my mouth. Gazing away at the flesh, I noticed the crispy texture maintain it’s frothy white color and it did not denature or turn brown like most bitten apples. Never hitting a soft spot, I ate this apple down to it’s core; where it housed its seeds. What was now left of it was not mechanically edible.
Starring away at these brown seeds I began to ask myself “What would it take to grow apples like these, how much money and time would it take to invest in harvesting apples, and if I could profit from this investment”. Maybe, I was thinking too much. Or maybe I had grown attached to the thin covered, red, yellow-green, sweet and juicy apple.
