The general public wished someone had known of his actions, when in fact, there were people at the University how did and they performed internal investigations. Reviewing notes and emails of the high ranking officials at Penn State University reveal the actions were discussed with various groups, but not the board of trustees (Crandall, et al, pg. 19, 2013). The lack of recurrence is what led to criticism and the scandal to follow.…

University students who insist on censorship by a college administration when a topic, issue or idea causes them emotional distress, effectively denies all who participate in the academic setting the basic right of freedom of speech in a venue that should be open to free exchanges of ideas. To take away topics that give them emotional stress, students have come up with a solution to the issue, trigger warnings. According to Jonathan Haidt and Greg Lukianoff’s The Coddling of the American Mind, trigger warnings are alerts for professors to give their students if trauma-trigging material is going to be taught (Haidt and Lukianoff 44). These trigger warnings fall under the category microagressions.…

A student complained the professor when he focused ‘on the beauty of the language and the splendor of the imagery when lecturing on the text.’ He did not notice her feelings, and the girl did not feel safe in the class. Infantilizing College College campuses across the U.S. have initiated change, and it’s not the tuition and costs of textbooks, it’s the elimination of anything considered controversial from classrooms and curriculum. A shift is being made to rid college campuses of offensive, racial, or sexist material and topics. In the September 2015 issue of The Atlantic, authors Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt poignantly title their article “The Coddling of the American Mind” and investigate why U.S. college students are demanding censorship in their studies and “trigger warnings” on the syllabus’ (Lukianoff and Haidt). A crusade is taking place across college campuses everywhere to rid subject matter and discussions of issues that may be regarded as…

Chris Crutcher argues in his article, “How They Do It”, that school systems should not become easily persuaded by the parents’ complaints to censor books that should be a part of the curriculum that their children benefit from due to the fact that the students can relate, learn, and build off of the books that are censored. Crutcher builds his argument throughout his article by including the use of personal anecdotes, pathos, and repetition. Due to the fact that Crutcher includes the use of personal anecdotes, he supports his argument. He builds his argument with the use of personal stories in hope to engage the readers.…
