Today was an odd day because yesterday, Jordan had asked me to set up an invite for Daisy to meet at my house. At the beginning I was unsure of why Gatsby wanted to meet with Daisy, but then Jordan told me that the reason he bought that house is because it’s across the bay from Daisy. At that point it became clear that Gatsby had feeling toward Daisy. I was shocked that Gatsby wanted me to set it up, but I had become less bothered knowing Tom cheating on my beloved cousin. Scott Fitzgerald, was a very controversial book when it was published. Fitzgerald had already been successful with his The Great Gatsby. Set mostly in Southern France and Switzerland, “the novel tells the story of what happens when the extremes of love, madness, and ambition play out against a high-glamour backdrop, in a physical and psychological landscape torn apart by World War I” (Shmoop, Tender is the Night). The novel is almost a perfect parallel of Fitzgerald’s life when he was writing it. He and his wife were going through marital troubles when she was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for schizophrenia.…

Scott Fitzgerald himself. When looking closely at the life of Jay Gatsby, the main character and protagonist in The Great Gatsby, it is nearly impossible to not see the similarities between his life, and the life of F. Scott Fitzgerald. One example would be that both Fitzgerald and Gatsby attended prestigious universities, but never graduated from them. Jay Gatsby is always quick to tell people that he is an “Oxford man,” despite the fact that he never graduated from the institution. Just like Gatsby, Fitzgerald also attended a highly respectable university, in his case Princeton, but did not graduate.…

I have to tell you what is going on through my head that I have never told anyone else since Gatsby arrived in my life. The love that I have for him is immeasurable, but I do not know how to communicate my feelings to Tom and also Gatsby. I am very troubled by this decision should I leave Tom and get thrown out of the east egg club or should I forget about Gatsby and feel nothing but pain from Tom. At one of Gatsby’s parties that I attended I felt very awkward and disgusted because the people there were not all about gestures, but they were all acting as if no one cared. Another time when I went to Gatsby’s house, it was just me and him, he went into his closet and threw all these beautiful shirts out at me.…

Fitzgerald utilizes diction to reveal the corruption of the American Dream. As Gatsby lays in his pool, unknowingly awaiting his death, Fitzgerald describes an eerie atmosphere.…
