Obi-Wan Kenobi As A Mentor In Star Wars A New Hope

Mentor A mentor or guide is an individual who serves as a teacher to the initiate or hero. Throughout Star Wars A New Hope, Obi-Wan Kenobi acts as a guide for Luke Skywalker. Luke’s home was destroyed, leaving him alone with no family. Obi-Wan Kenobi takes Luke under his wing and pushes Luke to cross the threshold to save Princess Leia. Obi-Wan teaches Luke about the force and gives him information about his father during their journey, which guides Luke to become a hero. Obi-Wan Kenobi is a mentor for Luke Skywalker for the reason that he teaches, inspires, and fits the appearance for his archetype. To begin with, Obi-Wan Kenobi meets the archetype of a mentor because he guides Luke to embark on a journey to save Princess Leia. When first introduced to this idea, Luke refused. Luke did not want to leave his uncle behind with no assistance on their everyday work. Obi-Wan respected Luke’s wish until stormtroopers destroyed Luke’s home and murdered his aunt and uncle. Because of this event and Obi-Wan’s guidance, Luke decides to join Obi-Wan in his mission to save Princess Leia. This occurrence greatly shows Obi-Wan’s archetype as a mentor because Luke would have no guidance without Obi-Wan Kenobi. On their way to Alderon, Obi-Wan tells Luke about his father’s time as a Jedi. Luke loved hearing about his father and is inspired to be a great Jedi warrior like his father. While Luke is practicing using a lightsaber, he listens to Obi-Wan share his knowledge of the force and how Luke can use the force for good. The advice that Luke is given regarding the force benefits Luke later in the movie when he is working to defeat the Death Star.
