The 2010 report of the White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity made it clear that in order to combat the issue of obesity, the country needs to focus on all of the aspects of the extremely complex situation ("Vital Signs"). Such aspects include the needs to focus on both nutrition and physical activity ("Vital Signs"), to work together with medical sites, worksites, communities, industries, and government ("Vital Signs"), and to address individuals and their surroundings and how they interact ("Vital Signs"). Some resources individuals can use to get their weight back on track are the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the 2008 Physical Activities Guidelines for Americans ("Vital Signs”). Often times, however, it is much easier to curb the problem before it even begins. Breastfeeding is known to have significant health benefits for newborns (Bell et al.), and children who are breastfed may also be at a reduced risk for obesity (Bell et al.). Additionally, children need to have a reduced energy intake.
