Many children nowadays are taking in a lot of stress from schoolwork, social pressure, self-esteem, parental issues, and sleep deprivation. School alone brings a lot of stress to kids, constantly wondering if they’re going to pass and go to the next grade or not. And in school it’s likely for kids to feel pressured to try to fit in with society and make friends. To get away from the stress kids like to just sit in front of a TV for hours and not to worry about anything else other than what’s going to happen in the next episode. Little do they know that watching TV all day and all night will cause them to be sleep deprived in the mornings. “Screen time doesn’t just interfere with physical activity – it extends into evening hours, throwing off the body’s natural sleep cycle.” Most children, especially teens, would rather stay up and watch movies all night than to go to sleep and have the full 8 hours of sleep their bodies need to get through the day. Child obesity doesn’t just affect the child’s mentality but they are also long term and can effect their adulthood as well. (Nelson)
Not too many people understand that what happens to kids while they’re young will follow them to their adulthood. If as a child they ate fast food on a daily basis then it’s no surprise that as an adult they would do the same thing. The mental effects of childhood obesity will follow through to adulthood unless someone decides to take charge and help kids with their disease. Being an adult with no social life because of your physical appearance is horrible. It’s only a matter of time until the adults become depressed if that has not happened
