Obesity Problem In America

Over 1 in 3 American adults are obese. About the same amount of children and adolescents ages 6-19 are extremely overweight or obese. Why is this happening? What can we do to prevent this? Why is obesity more of a problem in America than some other countries? Some scientists think they've figured out why.
One reason why obesity happens is our energy output is no longer balanced with our energy output. We take in energy through calories when we consume foods and drinks, when we exercise we burn out the energy source. This is why some people who are trying to lose weight, really watch how many calories they are eating so they can be sure that they are burning more than they are eating.
