Obesity is considered to be the condition in which an individual is grossly fat or overweight. Obesity is one of the main reasons why people die around the globe. At least 2.8 million adults die each year due to being obese (EASO). People consider fast-food to be the main reason why kids are obese but is it? There are many other important reasons that can also cause obesity leading to health problems or worse, death. Some we can control and turn around however, other reasons are born with you and can’t be fixed. People shouldn’t only look at what they are consuming but also consider how they live, their lifestyle. One of the top contributors leading towards obesity, is genetics. If one or both of your parents are obese, it is highly likely that you may be obese too. Scientific studies on identical twins who had been born apart proved that genes have a strong effect on a person (NIH). Genes also affect the amount of fat you store in your body and also where the extra …show more content…
Due to having everything we need wherever we are, like cars, people don’t exercise or walk anymore. They are busier watching their favorite TV show than wanting to be healthy. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) showed that physical activity was strongly connected with weight gain in both sexes. Based on this, people should exercise more to burn calories and stay in good shape (Balentine).
Sleep deprivation is another reason. People who sleep fewer hours than needed tend to eat foods full of calories and carbohydrates leading to, without a question, obesity. Another factor is smoking. People who tend to stop smoking gain a lot of weight at once mainly because food tastes better after you stop. Also the rate at which a person burns calories after quitting is low. One other contributing factor is pregnancy. Women gain a lot of weight while pregnant making it sometimes hard to lose it all after giving birth
