Obesity is a product from energy imbalance; it has become a major issue affecting citizen globally, especially in the United States. Over two-thirds of the population in the United States are overweight and one-third of the population is obese. Anatomy requires an unquestionable about of energy from food in order to keep life functions. The body will remain constant to the amount of calories the body burns but if more calories are intake than the ones burn, it will no longer remain equal which pushes to weight gain and obesity. There is a lot of circumstances that lead to not having energy imbalance such as eating habits, emotions, locations, income and genes. In this essay, I’m going to discuss how obesity has been growing in the United States and the health concern to this global epidemic. Researchers has conducted a research conducting that since 1970, over 30% of Americans were overweight which is almost two-thirds of United States population. They also conduct another research in 2002 stating that worldwide over 500 million of people are overweight. Obesity has been listed with high risk of health conditions such as: 2 diabetes, asthma, coronary heart disease and stroke. These type of health conditions requires a lot of direct medical spending such as treatment which for the most part is likely to increase the risk of the epidemic.
